Join our growing team of Certified Nurse Midwives and Ob/Gyn physicians at University of Washington Medical Center - Northwest in Seattle, WA. We are currently seeking a full time, full scope Certified Nurse Midwife to join our midwifery practice.

UW Medical Center - Northwest is a full-service, non-profit, community hospital, with 281 beds, on a patient-friendly, easy-access campus in northeast Seattle.  We are a satellite campus of the University of Washington Medical Center, the top-rated hospital in Washington State, with access to all the resources of a leading academic medical center.  We have a newly renovated birthing unit with spacious rooms with large labor tubs, and Baby Friendly certification. Our nurse-midwives have an excellent respectful relationship with our OB-GYN colleagues. We work with an amazing team of nurses who support physiologic birth and practice truly patient-centered care.   We are a smallish birthing facility, but with 24/7 in-house OB, neonatology, and OB anesthesia.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide full-scope midwifery care in an all-CNM practice group, including independent management of womens health care focusing primarily on pregnancy, birth, postpartum as well as family planning, gynecological and primary care of women. 
Practice within UW academic healthcare system that provides for consultation, collaborative management or referral to obstetrics, perinatology, and other specialties as indicated by client health status
Manage hospital labor assessment and admission, normal and abnormal labor, cervical ripening and labor induction, postpartum care and discharge of mothers and newborns.
Perform vaginal birth and laceration repair, limited OB ultrasounds as appropriate to training and experience, C-section first surgical assist, and IUD and subdermal contraceptive implant insertion and removal.
Maintain electronic medical records according to community standards of practice. 


QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Masters or Doctorate Degree in Nurse-Midwifery or Midwifery required.

Licensure, Registration, Certification
Current CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife) certification.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) License for the State of Washington.
Current Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) license for the State of Washington with prescriptive authority.
CPR/BLS certification.
Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) certification (active within 3 months of hire).
DEA registration.
EFM certification (can be arranged during onboarding if not already certified).

Work Experience
Experience as a full scope midwife, including newborn care and C-section first assist preferred but not required.
Previous training or experience with OB ultrasound preferred, but not required.
Experience teaching in healthcare setting is preferred but not required.

Special Training/Skills
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and acuity of the patients served by the assigned unit/department or clinic.
Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Ability to learn and work comfortably with electronic medical record (Training will be provided).
Ability to appropriately counsel and educated patients and families about complex care issues via phone or in person.
Able to effectively and respectfully communicate and collaborate with midwife partners and others, including but not limited to physicians, management, nursing, and support staff.
Teaching skills and ability to give appropriate positive and constructive feedback.
Flexibility in responding to needs of clinic schedule, practice partners, and patients.

Physical Abilities:
Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to move freely throughout the clinic and hospital.             
In an 8-hour workday, must be able to:
       o Lift / Carry
       o 20 to 50 pounds occasionally
       o 10 to 25 pounds frequently
       o up to 10 pounds constantly
As required, must be able to:
       o Sit, Stand, Walk, Bend, Squat, Kneel, Crawl, Climb and Reach above shoulders
       o Push and Pull
       o Perform fine motor functions
Must possess functional vision, hearing, and speech in order to communicate effectively with clients, client advocates, and staff.

Candidates will be expected to provide medical services at the University of Washington affiliated hospitals, train residents, and medical students, and make academic contributions to the field.

The University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
