Citibank Europe plc (CEP) is the main EU banking entity for Citi in EMEA with a presence in 22 European countries. It covers several key business lines including Markets, Securities Services, Treasury & Trade Services, Corporate & Investment Banking, with revenues of approx. $2bn and total assets of $70 billion which are expected to grow further. CEP has been designated a significant institution by the ECB and is therefore expected to meet enhanced regulatory expectations especially with regard to risk management.


Specifically, in light of increased Markets activities, CEP Risk Management is looking to grow its counterparty credit team as part of the broader credit risk team with roles requiring broad counterparty risk management, trading or quantitative / analytical experience.

To manage the Counterparty risk in Citibank Europe plc, a licensed bank under direct European Central Bank supervision. This includes working with the CEP Credit Team, CEP Markets team as well as with Citibank Counterparty Risk and Financial Institutions Organization.

This Role is a Controlled Function Role as defined by the Central Bank of Ireland Reform Act 2010 and Principal Regulations 2011, and amending Regulations 2014, 2015. The role is to review and oversee the credit risks associated with individual CEPs counterparties, following expanded CEP Markets activity, including derivatives, bonds, repos, markets treasury and interbank lines. It also involves active engagement in policy matters such as margining and collateral, advanced credit model usage, complex trade analysis, wrong way risk, stress testing and portfolio reviews on a key segments of CEPs overall credit portfolio.

Given the increased scope of Markets activities undertaken in CEP, this is a role requiring broad counterparty risk management, trading or quantitative / analytical experience.

**Key Responsibilities:**

+ Contribute to the oversight of inherent risks in the counterparty credit portfolio in CEP and participate in portfolio reviews; stress testing; concentrated position analysis; collateral analysis; wrong way risk analysis as necessary

+ Partner with CEP Markets team and Citibank Counterparty and Financial Institutions risk team to facilitate the execution of new business in line with Risk Appetite

+ Work closely with Markets, Credit, and Operational Risk teams, as well as with other functional partners such as Finance, Legal, Operations and Collateral Management to form a holistic picture of the counterparty risk in the portfolio

+ Participate in annual Material Risk Assessment, Risk Appetite and internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process in respect of counterparty risk

+ Perform counterparty assessment on new product initiatives and ensure key risks are adequately addressed before recommending to Product Review Committee

+ Perform credit risk assessment of induvial counterparties in line with Citi and CEP risk policies and procedures

+ Ensure timely classification and problem recognition, participate in close out processes, cooperate closely with legal and compliance partners

+ Help to address with regulatory queries / interactions, including potential inspections, on counterparty credit matters.

+ Significant interaction with a wide range of bank and risk management colleagues, as well as Group stakeholders and external stakeholders such as regulators / auditors

+ Holistic understanding of Citi businesses and processes, and risk management frameworks and processes

+ Be part of a larger organisation where teamwork, professionalism and integrity are an integral part of the provision of banking services


+ In-depth understanding of counterparty credit ideally in a regulated trading entity

+ Highly numerate, with experience of derivatives, FX, bonds or loan trading

+ Familiarity with industry standard Master Agreements (ISDA, GMRA), netting, collateral, close-out policies etc

+ Ideally, have worked in an international bank, broker dealer, hedge fund or asset manager

+ Advanced qualifications in Maths, Economics, Statistics, Physics or Financial Engineering

+ Courses in risk management, regulation or relevant computer applications

+ Highly organized and able to work to tight deadlines

+ Excellent influencing and relationship building skills

+ Express complex issues simply

+ Strong team player and manager
