CCB is seeking a Business Data Integrity Officer to create and maintain a data governance program for the US Commercial Banking business. The role will lead the development of a program that sets goals, standards, processes, reporting and technology around data management. This individual will be broadly responsible for ensuring the business has a clear understanding of critical data elements, definitions, and looks at how data traverses across platforms from origination through to regulatory reporting. The goal will be to simplify our ability to manage data and eliminate discrepancies across applications and install effective controls that prevent and monitor data quality breaks. The role will also be responsible for measuring credit client returns, and identifying those names that do not meet agreed- upon hurdles. This individual will require significant experience in dealing with all levels of management in highly complex organizational dynamic requiring adaptability, boldness, and creative forward thinking. The roles requires the ability to set a vision and influence a wide range of stakeholders across the bank.The BDIO must have the business experience to understand how data is utilized within the company, the ability to communicate with others to understand and convey data and information needs; provide guidance and direction on usage of the data; and develop reporting that tracks data quality and control.  The role requires knowledge on risk capital and returns models as well.

The BDIO for the will work closely with senior representatives from the Chief Data Office and Internal Business Controls to deliver a well-documented and controlled program. They will lead collaboration with internal subject matter experts, Technology, Risk Management, and the AIM team to deliver results. In addition, this leader may interact directly with regulators from time to time.

Major responsibilities include:

  • Create a new operating model within the business that aims to improve data quality across the franchise.
  • Lead teams to design and implement process, systems, and procedural changes which improve data integrity while improving the client experience and control environment
  • Create franchise-wide governance model, including stakeholders within and outside of CCB.
  • Identify and lead efforts to implement or modify necessary policies, procedures and system enhancements to fill current and future data quality gaps.
  • Lead red-zone process for the business, including data sourcing and clean up, model development and reporting
  • Partner with Technology to embed red-zone reporting into RM tools and reporting
  • Partner with Data Governance Office to effectively measure data quality of the business
  • Create a process to track and monitor critical data elements to identify data issues and to provide insights on identified issues as how they might impact the data and business analysis.
  • Provide guidance and oversight into data, data systems, and process improvements required to improve business data quality.
  • Develop and implement a data governance scorecard covering Data Quality, Data Control, and Data Strategy
  • Initiate and manage a  data user communication strategy covering system and data problems notifications, systems and data enhancement notifications, as well as useful tips

  • 15+ years of experience in wholesale banking
  • In depth knowledge of commercial banking business and products
  • Prior project management experience
  • Strong business acumen and analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of data, databases, data tools ( e.g. SAS, sql) and data processing experience 
  • Demonstrated understanding of data architecture and database design including ETL tools such as Ab Initio
  • Experience with third-party data from S&P, Moodys, etc., on small and medium business with national and international branches
  • Knowledge of customer recognition and KYC tools in a commercial banking/lending setting
