UW Facilities manages the Universitys buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. The Asset Management group includes Capital & Space Management, Engineering Services, Real Estate, Sustainability and other teams responsible for planning and workload management. The Operations group includes Project Delivery, Maintenance & Construction, Campus Utilities & Operations, Building Services, Transportation Services and Safety. Supporting these groups, as well as the separate Emergency Management team, are the Business Intelligence & Information Technology group and the Finance & Administration group.

Asset Management has an outstanding opportunity for a BIM Manager.

Under general supervision and guidance from the Assistant Director, this position is responsible for the collection and integrity of the information that is generated in Facilities.  This can range from ensuring documents are collected for recordkeeping from various Facilities departments to drawings being updated for as-builts.  As a manager, this position will be responsible to develop programs to help ensure that the information amongst FMC, PDG, and the University is being maintained and collected efficiently and effectively.

UWs Seattle main campus comprises over 300 buildings and 15 million gross square feet, including a major medical center/teaching hospital, state of the art research facilities, classrooms, offices, sport and recreation facilities, dormitories, utility distribution systems, 8 miles of utility tunnels and two central utility plants.  Other UW campuses and facilities comprise over 230 buildings and 4.5 million gross square feet including the University of Washington Tacoma and Bothell campuses, Pack Forest, Forks, Sand Point, Friday Harbor and the UW Tower complex.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for developing and implementing the overall strategy and initiatives for BIM, CAD, and document management policies for the University.
Supervise teams of classified individuals responsible for managing and maintaining the integrity of all University of Washington information.
Develop, supervise and train staff in the development, administration, and implementation of technologies in Building and Utility Records documentation and storage including but not limited to Computer Aided Drafting/Design (CAD), Building Information Modelling (BIM), and Construction-Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) applications.
Establish standards and procedures for quality control of close-out documents received from construction and maintenance projects to ensure compliance with data transfer procedures.
Play an active role in design/construction projects to ensure that BIM and CAD for operations and maintenance data requirements are met by consultants and supporting the Project Delivery Group (PDG) and Facilities Maintenance and Construction (FMC) as needed to meet the needs of the University.
Develop and implement a structure that includes CAD standards and other technical strategies to create a database of as-built drawings that best supports internal and external clients.
Responsible for ensuring that the online document management systems, software, and applications are in operation and available for clients at all times and document integrity within the system.
Establish policies, methods, procedures, and work rules for the online documents management systems to ensure security protocols and document quality standards are met.
Manage, strategize, and provide recommendations to leadership for improvements to better serve clients.
Positively support all management directives and ensure adherence to all University and Facilities Services policies and procedures.
Participate in and follow through with Facilities process improvement initiatives, incorporating LEAN principles into internal work process.

Requirements include:

Bachelor's degree with a minimum 5 years of management experience of technical staff (drafters and/or engineers).
Solid communication skills with ability to speak and write about technical issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.
General knowledge of web/internet hardware and software technologies, along with an ability to communicate on technical subjects effectively with non-technical staff.
Working knowledge of online data storage programs and Microsoft Office products
Expertise in Bluebeam, RevIt, and/or NavisWorks.
Self-driven and able to work well in teams and independently.
Ability to conduct business in a professional manner, proficient in developing and enhancing interpersonal relationships, able to handle difficult people and situations, and produce results with minimum direction.
Ability to learn new skills and appropriately prioritize tasks.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.


Certified professional in CAD or BIM
Expertise in at least two fields of drafting.

Conditions of Employment:

Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to reach and lift overhead.
Valid Washington State Drivers License.
Able to work in a non-smoking environment.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
