The UW Autism Center (UWAC) is a nonprofit organization devoted to supporting families affected by autism spectrum disorders through exceptional clinical services, innovative scientific research and high-quality training. UWAC is part of the Center on Human Development and Disability at the University of Washington and incorporates faculty and staff from the UW School of Medicine, College of Arts & Sciences, and College of Education.

The UWAC currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Part-Time, Hourly Behavior Technician (BT) at the Tacoma Campus.


RESPONSIBILITIES
This individual will work amongst a team of professionals, including licensed psychologists, speech-language pathologists, board certified behavior analysts, medical professionals, faculty, graduate students, and pre- and post-doctoral fellows.  This position will provide clinical services to individuals with autism spectrum disorders, providing/Implementing direct interventions to children with ASD using principles of applied behavior analysis.

The position will support the Autism Center-wide policies and procedures and workload standards. The position has additional complexities involving the ability to handle complex and sensitive situations regarding clinic patients.


General Job Duties/Description

-     To provide direct intervention to children with ASD in a clinic setting.
-     To accurately record client intervention data and manage records.
-     To develop individualized materials used in therapy.


Specific Tasks Description

PROVIDE INTERVENTION
-     Work 1:1 with children age 12 months through six years of age.
-     Implement intervention protocols developed by BCBA to increase skills/reduce problem behaviors.
-     Provide responsible, positive, sensitive intervention and care during therapy.
-     Apply ABA principles in therapy; tailor procedures to fit individual interests/needs.
-     Work under close supervision of masters level clinical staff.
   
DEVELOP MATERIALS
-     Create and produce picture cards, books, etc. as needed for the therapy program.
-     Create and produce motivation charts, token boards, PECS icons, visual schedules, play materials, etc.

ORGANIZING THERAPY SPACE
-     Maintain home and clinic therapy spaces in an organized, clean, and child-proof manner.

MANAGING RECORDS AND DATA COLLECTION
-     Organize and maintain computer and paper records of therapy including collecting and accurately recording data in each therapy session, graphing data and completing treatment notes.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant
OR
equivalent education/experience.

Excellent organizational skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, personal flexibility, the ability to interact with parents, children, and professionals, and experience working with toddler/preschool/elementary-aged children.

Ability and willingness to interact with children in a spontaneous and creative way.

This position involves physical care which may require moving children between the ages of 12-48 months.


DESIRED REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors degree in related field (psychology, education, human/child development).

Training and experience in: early intensive behavioral intervention (ABA) for children with autism, early intervention for toddlers, developmental psychology, behavior analysis, special education, or related fields. 

Experience working directly with children and families with Autism Spectrum Disorders. 
Willingness to commit to this position for 12 months to help ensure continuity for clients


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
This position is subject to annual TB testing and proof of auto insurance. 

*Employees must have 40 hours of training according to the BACB Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Task List.  Upon hire employees will be expected to pass a competency assessment and must be willing to complete Washington State requirements to work as a Certified Behavior Technician (CBT) through the WA State Department of Health. Employees must be available during Short Term Intensive Day Program hours. Hours are Mondays -Fridays 8:30-12:30. Hours may be subject to change based on client need or schedule.
