The Citi FinTech Strategy team is responsible for driving strategic and new business development initiatives for Citigroups Global Retail and Consumer Bank business across 20 countries.We act as a trusted advisor to the FinTech, Digital Payments and Global Retail Bank leadership and senior management team, address high impact strategic issues and drive digital product innovation across the business.

This position will work in close partnership with Retail Bank & Mortgage, FinTech and Digital Payments senior leadership and business/functional heads to:

  • Identify opportunities and issues of strategic importance to Citi Consumer Bank

  • Develop transformational strategies to grow and re-position the business

  • Drive digital innovation through identification, analysis and evangelizing disruptive technologies and their applications to the business

  • Drive change by partnering with business leadership with clear accountability

  • Provide clarity in complex problems and facilitate decision-making, particularly around business model innovation

  • Support performance measurement and management, including via external benchmarking -- deliver world-class market and competitive intelligence

  • Guide investment prioritization / business mix assessment

  • Support internal/external communications

The small size and high caliber of the team drives a focus on high impact projects. This position affords the opportunity to understand in depth the retail bank business, digital product innovation across payments, wealth management, and banking, grow understanding of the FinTech ecosystem, gain exposure to senior management, to develop deep relationships across the firm, and to build a strong career platform within Citi. Our alumni have taken strategy leadership roles and moved into high impact careers in various businesses/functions throughout Citi. The position is located in New York and requires minimal travel.


  • Drive large analytical projects: identifying and structuring the problem, analyzing root causes, developing solutions, communicating project results, and getting buy-in for change

  • Develop business cases that articulate the value of innovation and digital investments

  • Lead competitive intelligence efforts including compiling reports, associated analysis and management reporting documents ready for publication and review by senior business leaders

  • Lead data gathering and analysis for solving complex problems and facilitate decision making

  • Project management including tracking progress against milestones, compiling status update reviews and creating executive program level summaries

  • Support internal and external communications, including Senior Executive and Board Level

  • Performs all of the above independently and with limited supervision

For this position, we are looking for outstanding talent with strong intellectual and analytical capabilities and financial services experience, with an interest in all things digital.



  • Strong track record of academic and professional excellence and achievement

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • 3+ years of experience in Finance, Analytics or associated disciplines

  • 3+ years of strategy experience in Top 5 Management Consulting firm or in the strategy function of a Financial Services firm preferred

  • Knowledge of operational/financial modeling (forecasting, valuation) and ability to analyze financial statements

  • Exposure to broad technology and FinTech trends, particularly across wealth management, banking, digital payments and lending

  • At least a basic understanding on interest in digital product development and innovation

  • Outstanding analytical and quantitative capabilities required

  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, active listening) applied to 'client' situations

  • Collaborative work style -- ability to effectively interact with partners across organizational boundaries and hierarchies

  • Strong leadership presence -- command respect and earn trust of senior management team

  • Highly motivated and self-driven, ability to multi-task productively, and strong result orientation

  • Clear/logical approach to problem-solving - breaking issues down to components parts, identifying most important issues
