Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Asst Director-Distribution.

In this role, the Assistant Director of Central Distribution oversees the logistical flow of materials in support of the entire Medical Center's superblock and Ancillary areas- including Ambulatory Care Center and Center for Musculoskeletal Care. The Assistant Director provides leadership to operations while being responsible for process improvement initiatives, focusing on rationalizing significantly reduced inventory on hand to free up capital and space, fully accounting for materials and minimizing effects of any supply expirations, recalls or goods returns. In addition to department and staff leadership, the Assistant Director will work across NYULMC to optimize the significant benefits of and leverage the major investment in automated distribution devices i.e.; Omnicells, and provide decision-making support to the client base of the hospital to ensure cost-effective quality-oriented distribution and inventory control.

Job Responsibilities:

  • On an as needed basis, responds to Institution emergencies and special events by providing staff and medical surgical supply support (e.g.; internal and external emergencies).
  • HR and management functions (union and non-union) core departmental services and customer relationship management
  • Uses and remains current with technology and standards in the field of Materials Management through education, literature, and seminars in order to facilitate the transfer of knowledge to all materials management personnel.
  • Utilizes management skills, decision making, time management, meeting deadlines, and shows a high level of initiative in creating and managing projects that will raise departments productivity and service levels to internal customers and suppliers alike.
  • Provides subject matter expertise, leadership, and direction in areas of expertise being the lead operational manager for NYULMC in his/her fields of responsibility via each of the following and any other settings. Participates in committee work as required. Provides instructions and in services in new products, procedures and equipment in a manner that promotes efficient resource use and a safe work environment for all involved.
  • Prepares and controls departmental budget and operational reports in support of the Senior Director of Logistics' overall department leadership
  • Optimizes the impact of human, capital, space, systems and other resources in the satisfaction of internal customer's needs and ensures that supply chain policies are current, accurate, and adhered to, including: The human resources aspect of the department using independent judgement leading to effectively recommending the development, hiring or performance counseling under his/her direction. Providing comprehensive departmental orientation to all new personnel and required training to all staff on an ongoing basis. Manages regulatory compliance/quality assurance by assuring that the standards of operation of the department are in compliance with the standards set by regulatory agencies such as the NY Department of Health, Joint Commission and others. Develops policies and procedures in inventory control, order processing, storage, distribution, and updates all department managerial tools such as process measurements, reports, productivity analysis, organizational charts, job descriptions.
  • Supervises, assigns, and directs the activities of all personnel performing supply chain activities in the central distribution warehouse and ancillary areas.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the organization's Core Values and incorporates them into the performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree required. Three (3) years of experience in Supply Chain Management in various capacities including, support systems, receiving, distribution, and information systems. Experience in procurement, information technology, finance and accounting, change management, distribution, and logistics. Ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience. Excellent communication skills specifically to an executive level audience; thinking not bounded by the past, or by apparent constraints. Success for implementing process efficiencies and operating a highly customer-focused group. Experience in purchasing, works with other areas of Supply Chain Management especially with Strategic Sourcing to optimize departmental activities and ensure compliance.
