The Trademark, Brand Protection and Legal Operations Senior Consultant role assists the Associate General Counsel, Head of Legal Operations and Trademarks of Elanco in various Operations projects, managing the global Elanco trademark portfolio and coordinating with the Elanco Protect Protection team as primary contact within legal.
  • Primary trademark management responsibility for a global trademark portfolio
  • Collaborate with product teams on name creation and clearance of possible trademarks.
  • Provide guidance about application, registration, use, protection and enforcement of trademarks.
  • Prosecute US trademarks including filing of trademark applications, responding to Office Actions and maintaining trademark registrations.
  • Instruct international trademark agents to file and prosecute trademark applications and maintain trademark registrations globally.
  • Maintain animal health trademark library.
  • Research watch notices for potential conflicts.
  • Implement strategy for reducing or eliminating conflict.
  • Assist in corporate transactional matters by performing necessary due diligence relating to possible purchase, sale or licensing of trademarks, copyrights and/or domain names.
Brand Protection
  • Provide comprehensive support to Elanco Product Protection Team (EPPT) in the implementation and enforcement of global anti-counterfeiting and illegal parallel import (PI) strategy.
  • Assist in reviewing suspected counterfeit and illegal PI products.
  • Assist in the drafting of letters and statements and archiving of exhibits and specimens for criminal/civil matters.
  • Provide general oversight and responsibility for collation and analysis of intelligence.
  • Assist manager in devising and implementing global intellectual property enforcement program, product knowledge, help prepare training materials, participate in training/ educational awareness workshops.
  • Assist in evidence gathering and compilation to support infringement actions.
  • Coordinate with EPPT on market surveys and online enforcement actions.
Legal Operations
  • Assist in the development and management of internal processes necessary to support effective delivery of legal services.
  • Assist in supplier management and the development of various legal standards, as necessary.
  • Assist with the implementation and operation of departmental tools, including status reports, task tracking and project management tasks.
  • Assist in the development and management of internal legal communications and messaging, including, but not limited to operational reporting and notification regarding key legal developments.
  • Oversee the departmental IT systems and coordinate with respective vendors and IT, as necessary.
  • Manage special projects and initiatives as necessary.
  • Stay abreast of best practices in legal operations for similar-sized companies and make appropriate recommendations
  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum 5 years experience in trademarks, brand protection and legal operations, in law firm or in-house legal department
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Elanco does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to build relationships with internal clients and interface with individuals at all levels;
  • Must be a self-starter, resourceful and can think creatively to solve problems; ability to take initiative and follow through;
  • Must demonstrate professional conduct, strong work ethic and good judgment;
  • Must be a team player who works well under pressure and able to independently and reliably conclude projects and assignments;

  • Knowledge of standard office software required
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to pay close attention to details
  • Strong business acumen and mindset towards collaboration.
  • Previous in-house experience in a global corporation preferred.
