Position Summary

The University of Central Arkansas invites applications for the position of Associate General Counsel/Compliance Officer (Title IX/EEO/Affirmative Action). UCA is a comprehensive regional university with approximately 11,000 students. The campus is noted for its beauty and is conveniently located in Conway, a rapidly growing city of 65,000 and home to UCA and two private colleges, a public school system ranked among the states best, and strong K-12 parochial schools.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for the Universitys compliance with laws, regulations, and guidelines related to affirmative action, equal opportunity, Title IX, and immigration law, and serve as the Universitys external contact with state and federal civil rights agencies. This person will serve as the Universitys coordinator for Title IX and AA/EEO Officer, as well as conduct investigations of complaints of unlawful discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, and retaliation. The person selected for this position will be responsible for researching and responding to questions and concerns about Title IX, as well as other laws and regulations as they apply to students, faculty and staff. The position will also independently investigate and respond to complaints of discrimination arising under anti-discrimination laws (such as Title IX and ADA). The selected person will develop policies and training programs to ensure the University community is knowledgeable of, and complies with, relevant federal and state laws and regulations. The person selected will also assist the General Counsel with other legal matters as needed. This position will report directly to the President in regard to Title IX matters and to the General Counsel on all other matters.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Required Education and/or Experience

Juris Doctor from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in Arkansas; knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations, and guidelines related to affirmative action and civil rights enforcement; experience conducting compliance investigations; three years of legal experience with one year of legal experience in higher education or governmental setting; and excellent oral and written communication skills.

approximately 1,800 are graduate students. The university offers more than
90 undergraduate and 60 graduate certificate and degree programs, including
seven doctoral programs. The student body consistently scores above the
national average on the ACT exam. UCA is proud of its tradition of teaching
excellence and its contributions in research, scholarship, and creative
activities. The campus is widely acclaimed for its beauty. UCA is located
in Conway, Arkansas, a thriving city of approximately 65,000 in central
Arkansas, and thirty minutes from Little Rock. Conway is home to several
major industries, two private colleges, an excellent public school system,
and strong private K12 schools. Residents have easy access to the Ouachita
and Ozark National forests and pristine wildlife areas near the Buffalo
National River.
