UW Medicine includes Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center Montlake, UW Medical Center - Northwest, Valley Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, UW Physicians, UW School of Medicine and Airlift Northwest. Of the $778 million in gifts and private grants raised in FY20 by the University of Washington, UW Medicine raised $376million (48 percent of the Universitys total) in gifts and private grants from over 19,000 donors. The University of Washington has just completed a multi-billion-dollar campaign, during which UW Medicine raised over $2.5 billion.

UW Medicine Advancement has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director for Donor Relations (ADDR).

The Associate Director for Donor Relations develops and implements a strategic, comprehensive donor relations program for UW Medicine Advancement that includes reporting, communications and a wide variety of engagement and recognition opportunities. Reporting directly to the Director for Donor Relations, the ADDR influences and guides programmatic strategy in addition to providing daily oversight of all these critical activities that result in increased philanthropic support, involvement, and advocacy by individual and organizational donors. The ADDR develops meaningful stewardship opportunities for UW Medicines donors by assessing, coordinating, and implementing activities across all of UW Medicine.

This position will have interactions with diverse constituencies (faculty, high level administrative and academic staff, alumni, major gift donors, annual giving donors, patients, community leaders and volunteers) with diverse goals and expectations.

The Donor Relations program is comprised of donor stewardship and recognition, which includes cultivating and stewarding long-term relationships with annual and major donors, gift acknowledgment and donor recognition. Partnering with leadership team members and frontline fundraisers, the Associate Director enhances cultivation strategies for prospective major gift donors and engagement strategies for key constituency groups. The Donor Relations team responsibilities include, but are not limited to, oversight across annual donor stewardship, lifetime giving programs, Corporate and Foundation Relations, individualized stewardship programs and all major gift fundraising priorities and UW Medicines Compass program. Some high-level examples include:

     Develop and implement strategies and opportunities for proactive, high-touch stewardship engagement, targeting major gift donors and prospects.
     Initiate and implement individual stewardship plans in support major gift fundraising.
     Lead in the execution of stewardship reporting, including collaboration with UW Medicine and University stakeholders to accomplish one-to-many stewardship reports, yearly endowment reporting, highly individualized milestone and cross-University reporting.
     Help create and maintain stewardship data infrastructure and systems to support and implement stewardship strategies across donor and prospective donor pools.


Stewardship strategy and implementation (50%):

Enhance and implement a comprehensive stewardship menu for UW Medicine Advancement, with an emphasis on strategic end-to-end delivery to maximize deliverables across the donor population.
Integrate into frontline fundraising teams in order to drive and implement insider stewardship strategies, curated to each teams unique fundraising goals.
Drive principal gift prospect (PGP) strategy discussions amongst Donor Relations team to influence leadership stewardship planning through insight delivery as subject matter experts.
Collaborate with event and marketing colleagues, and Central Advancements Donor Relations team to engage a wide variety of donors, volunteers, faculty and administrators who are committed to ensuring the success of UW Medicines mission through philanthropic support and advocacy.
Influence Donor Relations comprehensive stewardship plan for each year that provides appropriate recognition for all volunteers and levels of donors with the goal of maintaining and increasing participation and engagement in preparation for the next major fundraising campaign.
Develop specific programs and strategies to steward and recognize organizational donors that reflect their unique relationship with UW Medicine.
Work with UW Medicine and UW Medicine Advancement marketing and communication staff to drive content and distribution strategy to support donor relations goals and develop and implement an integrated online and social media donor relations strategy.
Serve as UW Medicine liaison for University-wide stewardship activities and coordinate UW Medicines participation in these efforts.

Endowment Execution and Stewardship (20%):
Manage all aspects of UW Medicine endowments, including creation and writing, recognition and stewardship for over 1,000 UW Medicine endowments and over 400 Individual Stewardship Plans.
Work with the Dean of the School of Medicines office of finance and administration to ensure that the donors gift intentions are met.
Maintain a tracking and documentation system to manage these strategies.

Individual Annual and Lifetime Donors (20%):
Develop and implement strategy for major giving donor recognition activities through the creation of individualized stewardship plans. Ensure that benefits provide high-impact and personalized opportunities and are received in a timely, efficient, and appropriate manner.
Work with the Deans Office, department chairs, and development colleagues to provide consistent, personalized stewardship including reports, letters, campus visits, donor meetings, events, or other activities.

Administrative Duties (10%):
While this position does not have formal supervisory responsibility, this position will regularly assign and review the work of other staff members.  The Associate Director will be consulted for input on performance of staff and will be involved with hiring decisions.
Participate on University and UW Medicine related committees and ensure compliance with University procedures and policies.
Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree in business, English, communications or similar.
Four or more years of progressively responsible experience in institutional advancement or related field.

Additional Requirements:
Candidates should have proven experience managing complex and diverse activities with a track record in advancement, volunteer management, marketing, and public relations.
Candidates must show a proven ability to create, implement, and manage new programs and an ability to discreetly handle confidential information about donors and volunteers.
Candidates must possess a demonstrated willingness to organize and juggle multiple projects.
Intrinsically motivated and able to create innovative ideas to achieve results. Recognizes and seizes opportunities.
Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation. Poised, professional manner and the ability to communicate clearly, directly and empathetically in all interactions: verbal and written communications, one-on-one conversations and in groups, etc.
Demonstrated ability to proactively and skillfully engage others in ways that help resolve differences, manage conflicts and build consensus, all with the best interests of the organization in mind.
Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability, empathy and strong attention to detail.
Ability to make decisions in ambiguous situations, exercise good judgment based on information and analysis in a fast-paced, dynamic, deadline-driven environment in an organized and professional manner.
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidences and protect confidential information.
Ability to act in a selfless manner and model ethical values of UW Medicine.

Equivalent education/experience may substitute for stated requirements.

Familiarity with fundraising principles and experience in a higher education or academic medical setting.
Experience creating and delivering presentations to groups of all sizes.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a background in writing for a variety of audiences.
Experience with Access and or CRMs.
