Position Summary

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or closely related discipline and a strong commitment to teaching, research, and service at the undergraduate level. Course responsibilities include chemistry for non-science majors, general chemistry, quantitative analysis and instrumental analytical courses.

The department is active in innovative teaching, undergraduate research, and professional service to the university and community. Faculty expertise includes all major chemical subdisciplines, providing a valuable resource pool for undergraduate instruction, research mentoring and collaboration. The curriculum encourages students to excel in the classroom and the laboratory, with hands-on training using state-of-the-art instrumentation. Department maintains: AA, FT-IR, UV-VIS, luminescence, FT-NMR, X-band EPR spectrometers as well as GC/MS, UPLC/TQMS, MALDI-TOF. In addition the department also maintains a microwave synthesizer and glove box.

Opportunities also exist to teach advanced upper division special topics courses.

The departments graduates are competitive and successful in graduate and professional programs across the nation. The student ACS chapter is very active in community outreach, and for six of the past seven years the UCA Student ACS chapter has been recognized as an outstanding chapter by ACS.

The position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
The position is tenure track and a nine-month appointment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching (lectures and labs): chemistry for non-science majors, freshman-level general chemistry, sophomore/junior quantitative analysis, and/or junior/senior instrumental methods. Teaching duties may also include environmental chemistry depending on the candidates specialization.

Opportunities also exist for advanced upper division special topics courses.

Research: develop and sustain a successful research program that produces quality contributions to the greater scientific community while also mentoring undergraduate students in experimental design and modern research methods.

Service: departmental, college, and university-wide committee service and
professional public outreach.

Advising: departmental chemistry majors

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Candidates with a record of carrying out research with undergraduates are highly desirable.

Successful candidates will contribute to and enhance the active and productive undergraduate environment in the department.

Required Education and/or Experience

Ph.D.in analytical chemistry or closely related field. A strong commitment to teaching, research, and service at the undergraduate level.
