Position Summary

The Department of Accounting at the University of Central Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning as early as August 16, 2020. The nine-month appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Applications will be considered for individuals interested in teaching in any area of accounting. Preference will be given to those applicants with an interest or experience in teaching Accounting Information Systems and Data Analytics. Please indicate your preference and/or willingness to teach in the following areas: financial, managerial/cost, taxation, accounting information systems, auditing, and/or government/not-for-profit.

The Department of Accounting has 12 full-time faculty and over 250 majors at the undergraduate level or Masters of Accountancy (MAcc) level. Local, regional and international firms recruit our graduates. The College of Business occupies a recently constructed state-of-the-art building which houses four academic departments (Accounting; Economics, Finance, Insurance, and Risk Management; Marketing and Management; and Management Information Systems). The College offers twelve undergraduate degree programs and three programs at the masters level (MAcc, MBA, Certificate in Data Analytics), with typical enrollment exceeding 1,500 students annually. In addition, the College has four recognized centers: Arkansas Center for Research in Economics; Center for Insurance and Risk Management; Center for Logistics Education: Advancement, and Research; and Small Business Advancement National Center. The College is accredited by AACSB.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

An Assistant/Associate Professor at the University of Central Arkansas is expected to teach classes at the undergraduate and graduate level. The faculty member will be expected to teach a variety of accounting courses, as well as develop and maintain an active program of research leading to peer-reviewed publications. In addition, advising students and providing service to the department, college, university, and/or professional community is expected. Candidates should be willing to teach in both face to face and distance education formats.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Applicants should possess a command of the discipline, the ability to deliver effective instruction and assess student performance, and the capability of engaging in successful individual and collaborative research and scholarship.

Required Education and/or Experience

Minimum educational requirements include either (i) an earned doctorate in Accounting, (ii) a Juris Doctorate with an LLM in taxation for applicants with a desire to teach tax, or (iii) an earned doctorate in business accompanied by significant accounting experience or prior degrees in accounting. (Candidates nearing completion of an earned doctorate will also be considered for an Assistant Professor position.) Applicants at the Associate Professor rank must also have a professional certification and an established record of research and quality teaching.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

Significant professional experience and teaching experience, in either traditional or non-traditional settings, is desirable. Preference will be given to those applicants with experience with accounting information systems and/or data analytics and a desire to teach in those areas.

License(s)/Certifications (Required or Preferred)

CPA Certification or other professional certification is preferred.

Founded in 1907, UCA has an enrollment of more than 10,000, of which more than 15% are graduate students.
