The mission of the Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMAD) is to create pathways for diverse populations to access postsecondary opportunities, nurture and support their academic success, and cultivate a campus climate that enriches the educational experience for all. OMAD seeks to build a comprehensive pathway for students from underserved communities, deliver excellent academic support services to UW students, and advance university-wide diversity.  OMAD staff enjoys a fast-paced mission oriented work environment noted for its commitment to diversity and excellence.  Within OMAD is the College Access unit that implements programs focused on expanding access for underserved communities by partnering with K-12 school districts, community coalitions and community colleges.   

The Office of Minority Affairs & Diversity has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director for the Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment Team. 

The Assistant Director for the  Multicultural Outreach & Recruitment (MOR) works to attract and enroll talented and diverse students to the University of Washington (UW) in order to help create an intellectually and culturally vibrant student body.  This position helps advance the University's compelling interest in making sure it is accessible to talented students from all social identities by helping remove barriers to the recruitment of talented underrepresented student populations.

The assistant director will primarily lead using data, assessment, and technology to build capacity with the MOR admissions counselors to utilize CRM data in their recruitment, yield and communications work. The Assistant Director is responsible for query and report construction and automation requests; ensures system integrity and is the liaison to enrollment counseling staff; reviews and updates operating and training manuals; trains MOR staff on the use of the UW CRM system. With a stronger understanding of data, the MOR team can more effectively plan and differentiate interactions with prospective students, families and other influencers. 

In addition, the assistant director will also be responsible for the transfer portfolio to help pave the way for community college students from underrepresented minority backgrounds meet transfer requirements to the University of Washington-Seattle --the State's flagship university.  This position supports students throughout the admissions transfer process as well as help advise students develop a portfolio of classes aligned with admissions criteria for their chosen academic program. This includes early identification of potential transfer applicants, the ability to conduct culturally inclusive admissions and financial aid presentations, workshops, and counselling prospective transfer students.  This admissions counselor recruitment territory will target recruitment in the northwest region, southwest region, and at eastern Washington community colleges Wenatchee Valley College, Big Bend College, Columbia Basin College, and Yakima Valley College.

This position report to the Associate Vice President for College Access and the director of the MOR team.  This position also works closely and collaboratively with the Enrollment Management Office of Admissions.  The assistant director and the director makeup the MOR leadership team that plans, oversees, executes and evaluates recruitment initiatives and strategy.

20% - Provides analysis and synthesis to inform existing and proposed recruitment efforts, programs, and initiatives based on enrollment benchmarks and database reports. Recommends enrollment strategy improvements and efficiencies.
20% - Trains and coaches MOR admission counselors to become proficient using the client relationship management system used by UW, including data entry, report and query generation. Reviews and updates operating and training manuals for the CRM.
10% - Collaborate and interface with Office of Admissions and Multicultural Outreach and Recruitment teams on data needs, create/run queries and recommend report improvements. Ensure integration of MOR programming data with CRM.
30% - Manage and oversee MOR's transfer student recruitment territory and all related responsibilities. Including developing, implementing and evaluating multicultural outreach programs designed to increase the number of historically underrepresented transfer applicants and enrolled transfer students to the University of Washington.
10% - Assists MOR counselors with day-to-day operations, questions and problem-solving. As needed, assists with MOR events/conferences.
5% - Development of productivity and status reports.
5% - Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's Degree in Business, Counseling, Education, Communication or other related field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience is required
• Strong quantitative data manipulation skills such as advanced Excel spreadsheet capability.
• Demonstrated experience using client relationship management (CRM) systems to create and run queries and create reports.
• Familiarity and demonstrated success with data-informed recruitment strategies.
• Ability to coach and assist professionals in understanding data and how to use it in their day-to-day work.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
• Must be flexible and have the drive to work in a fast-paced office.
• Must demonstrate the ability to present the UW in a positive way to diverse populations.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

• Experience in college admissions, recruitment experience, or early outreach and engagement with youth in Washington and an understanding of the distinctive qualities of the UW.
• Understanding of the community college landscape in WA state.
• Orientation towards customer service, and experience managing high volume emails, phone calls, and on-campus visitors.
• Appreciation of the complexities of a large public flagship institution.
