School of Pharmacy - Advancement has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director of Advancement.

The Assistant Director of Advancement works closely with the Assistant Dean for Advancement for School of Pharmacy (SOP) to increase private support the School of Pharmacy while enhancing alumni, donor and stakeholder engagement with the School. Increasing stakeholder engagement will be accomplished primarily through discovery activities - including research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospective donors as well as events, broad-based alumni relations, Board meetings and activities and Advancement marketing and communications.

The Assistant Director of Advancements key responsibility is contact with School of Pharmacy alumni and friends, while conducting analysis and evaluation of donor qualification.

This position requires a high level of self-awareness and mature decision-making ability along with a high level of discretion and tact when dealing with academic leaders, volunteers and donors.  Irregular work weeks, often involving night and weekend commitments is also expected.  The Assistant Director will be responsible for a significant volume of donor outreach and contact, through cold calling, emails and direct mail.  This position will qualify donor prospects; building strong relationships between the prospective donor and Pharmacy.

Rejection will be a challenging aspect of this position.  Statistically, only a fraction of calls made will result in a meeting.  Of those individuals, only a fraction will qualify as a major gift prospect.  This individual must be resilient, positive, creative, self-directed, consistent and disciplined.

Pipeline, Annual Gifts and Discovery
Working closely with the Pharmacy Advancement team, take lead responsibility for discovery and qualification of pipeline gifts, with specific focus on the Deans Club ($1,000 +/- annually) and the Presidents Circle  $2,000 +/- annually)  from individuals, foundations, corporations and organizations.

Develop and execute targeted efforts to increase participation in the Deans Club and Presidents Circle.

Primary responsibility for managing and developing the School of Pharmacys annual giving program, including the Deans Club for individual donors ($1,000+)

In collaboration with the Assistant Dean, develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals capable of making Deans Club level gifts.

Lead and create, in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Advancement, strategic discovery activities and targeted engagement opportunities, including events for alumni.

Work in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Advancement to develop techniques to initiate cold relationships and move them through the donor continuum to a gift conversation.

Conceive, develop and implement comprehensive giving programs and mini-campaigns for strategic constituent groups, such as students or faculty and staff.

Consult with the UW Annual Fund team, SOP departments and the SOP Communications team to develop, manage and execute the Schools annual fund program including direct mail and student calling.

Coordinate annual giving efforts with Central Advancement, including student calling and direct mail activities.

Develop written materials for solicitation and stewardship and develop other opportunities to advance the Schools annual giving programs, as appropriate.

Prepare written proposals and grant applications, informational materials, endowment agreements, stewardship and grant reports as needed to secure and steward gifts.

This position will be assigned a leadership giving portfolio and held to the metrics of that portfolio.

Alumni Relations and Stakeholder Engagement
Support the annual giving component of the Schools Pharmacy Alumni Association.  In partnership with the PAA Board, develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals to build a broad base of support for the School of Pharmacy.

In partnership with the Assistant Dean for Advancement, manage and lead the Pharmacy Alumni Association Board, including Board meetings, retreats and other special activities.

Oversee and manage the Alumni Associations membership targets; conduct analysis and provide reports to the Board that facilitate the decision-making process.

Recruit and onboard new Board members as needed and ensure the Board is well engaged with the School.

Create programs designed to build the lifelong affinity and engagement of alumni and students focused on increasing philanthropy and service to the School.

Conceptualize, promote and implement external alumni gatherings and events.  Consul on and assist with departmental-level alumni reunions and/or events as needed.

Strengthen alumni profiles in the community in coordination with the Communications team.

Strengthen alumni engagement with the School of Pharmacy by working with departments, Office of Student Affairs and the Communications team to find volunteer opportunities for alumni within the School.

Working closely with the Pharmacy Advancement team, the Deans Office and Department administrators, support the development, production and delivery of the Schools annual endowment and fund reports in coordination with the Universitys annual CEF reports to donors.

Update and manage the Schools donor recognition platforms as needed, including published and online annual giving rosters, the Schools donor wall and Department recognition plaques.

Manage the Schools gift fulfillment process to optimize pledge fulfillment and leverage renewal opportunities. Monitor donor pledge and gift activity on a monthly basis.  Working closely with Gift Processing and Pharmacys Advancement team, contact donors as required to update credit cards, provide pledge reminders and leverage new annual commitments.

Manage stewardship activities for Pharmacy, including but not limited to acknowledgements and/or endowment donors and thank you visits to donors.

Programming and Communications
Support the creation and production of the Schools alumni publications, correspondence and other communications, as needed.

Support and assist with advancement events that are targeted for discovery, cultivation and stewardship, including programing strategies, sourcing speakers and volunteers, creating targeted guest lists, and conceiving event-related collateral.

Prepare briefing materials as needed for the Dean and other School leadership and volunteers.

Collaborate with Advancement and Communications team to develop strategic advancement related marketing and communication tools.  This includes, but is not limited to, event collateral and follow up communications, stories for the website and alumni magazine, special meeting and event materials, talking points and annual fund appeals.

Represent the School at University, community and professional functions, as appropriate.

Attend appropriate training opportunities to develop skillsets in advancement.

Capitalize on projects and opportunities as they arise.

Other duties as assigned

Direct some of the work of the office student support staff.

Bachelors degree and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience development/advancement, Equivalent combination of comparable knowledge and skills may substitute for education and/or experience.

Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.

Must have regular and reliable transportation for local travel and willing to travel when necessary.

Frequent local travel expected.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
