The Assistant Director for Mission Engagement will work as a member of the Evans School of Public Policy & Governance Advancement team to inspire individuals to support of the work of the Evans School through philanthropic gifts, engagement and advocacy as informed members of the public sphere, and by facilitating a community of reciprocity.

The position requires a commitment to anti-racism and equity, a tolerance for risk and ambiguity, creativity and curiosity, strong project management skills, as well as the ability to problem solve, take initiative, set priorities, and handle multiple projects at once. The successful candidate will be eager to learn new skills,  able to exercise good judgment in a fast-paced, dynamic, goal-driven environment, the ability to stay flexible and nimble in ones day-to-day activities, and a propensity to say yes when asked to help achieve various team goals.

Duties and Responsibilities
The focus of this role is to inspire multiple forms of engagement between the Evans School and the wider community.  This work can be thought of as fitting within three areas of focus:

Community Engagement (35%)
Providing pathways for our community to engage in life-long learning through and engagement with Evans School activities in order to advance the Evans School mission. 
Design, host, and evaluate inclusive community events that promote Evans as the source of accessible, relevant, and applied life-long learning and that share widely the talents and contributions of our students and faculty. Manage a variety of responsibilities related to events, including audience development, program design, and securing sponsors.
Create, facilitate, and promote multi-media content that adds value to the wider community by sharing knowledge, research, learnings, and insights from within Evans and our expansive network (ex: online newsletters, social media, audio/video recordings, graphic harvests via events/forums).
Serve as the School's designated "Constituent Relations Officer," liaising between Evans and the UW's Alumni Association, in order to cross promote opportunities for community engagement across the University and coordinate activities with other Schools/Colleges across the three UW campuses.
Develop, execute, and share an engagement plan that identifies opportunities for alumni connection and participation with the School and student body.

Community Philanthropy (30%)
Inspiring and facilitating philanthropic contributions to further the Evans School's mission and increase the Evans School's impact.
Plan the work and work the plan: Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan with goals, objectives, strategies for advancing the School's development and advancement priorities. 
Identify signals that would invite philanthropic conversations (ex. an individuals giving history; recurring event attendance; other forms of giving (time, talent)) and solicit financial support (gifts of $500-$5,000) through written, digital, and personal (one-on-one) appeals. Use UW "Leadership Giving Officer" solicitation metrics as a guidepost for targeted levels of activity and track all activities via UWs Advancement database. 
Create and promote giving opportunities and stewardship reports specific to various stakeholder groups (ex. alumni of various degree programs; employers; volunteers) through segmentation and use of digital resources that facilitate personalization.
Work with Evans School Advancement Specialist to coordinate with and leverage efforts of the central UW Annual Philanthropy team.
Develop means for communicating transparently with the broader community the uses and impact of their philanthropic investments.

Community Reciprocity (25%)
Creating opportunities for the wider community to share its wisdom, networks, expertise, and opportunities with Evans School students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Collaborate and partner with the Student Services and Career Development teams to deepen connections with external communities and highlight opportunities for continued engagement of alumni. Engagement may include sharing opportunities around hiring, mentoring, and connecting Evans School students and alumni with professional opportunities, as well as identifying mutually beneficial partnerships beyond hiring.
Solicit and craft alumni profiles to serve as a source of inspiration and mission-articulation for current students, fellow alumni, and beyond.  Manage the alumni portion of the Evans School website.
Highlight alumni impact by facilitating the annual Alumni Awards process.
Manage and promote the process through which community can serve as volunteers within Evans, whether as guest speakers, part of an alumni governance group, as ambassadors, and more.

Other duties as assigned (5%)
Opportunity to serve on Evans School and UW-wide committees.
Perform other duties as assigned in service to the mission of the Evans School.

Donor Focused: Establishes, cultivates and stewards strong relationships with donors and friends to build and maintain lifelong partnerships and trust with UW.
Results Oriented: Acts decisively to achieve results.
Planning & Implementing: Develops fundraising strategies and plans that integrate into the organizations mission, priorities and goals.
Conflict Resolution: Works to resolve conflicts and differences through dialog and open communication in a timely manner. Sees every difference as an opportunity for growth and change.

A bachelor's degree and at least three years of progressively responsible experience in development, advancement, or community engagement.  Equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may substitute for degree.
Demonstrated creativity, organizational ability, and strong attention to detail.
The ability to understand data sets and make strategic decisions using data. 
The capacity to achieve superior results working independently as well as effectively as a part of a team.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
Enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility required.
Solid computer skills, including proficiency working with relational databases and Microsoft Word and Excel for the generation of correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, and forms.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.

Desired Qualifications
Experience hosting events and conversations that invite and include diverse perspectives, voices, and experiences.
Creativity, a great sense of humor, and an interest in being a member of a very collaborative team.

Conditions of Employment
Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.
Must have reliable transportation for local travel and willing to travel within the US when necessary.
Ability to lift 20 pounds regularly and up to 40 pounds occasionally for event setup and tear down.
During Events (from setup to tear down) or on Event days:
Ability to stand 4 or more hours continuously.
Ability to walk 4 or more hours continuously.
Ability Standing: duration of 4+ hours for events
Ability to work greater than a 10 hour day
