University Advancement and College of Built Environments has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Director for Advancement.

POSITION PURPOSE
The Assistant Director for Advancement, as a member of the CBE Advancement team, will help assist, plan, implement and direct the CBEs advancement activities and efforts to broaden the base of engagement and investment from individuals, organizations, corporations and foundations. The Assistant Directors key responsibilities are direct contact with alumni and friends through portfolio management.

One of the Assistant Directors key responsibilities is conducting analysis and evaluation of donor qualification through contact with CBEs alumni and friends. This position will spend the majority of their discovery effort meeting with alumni and potential individual donors, either face-to-face, on the phone or through email.

To fulfill the duties of the position, the Assistant Director interacts directly with donors and potential donors, alumni, staff, University advancement officers, vendors, service providers, University officials, and volunteers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Discovery
Lead and create, in collaboration with CBEs staff and faculty, strategic discovery activities for the portfolio that allow for prospect qualification and follow-up.

Manage and coordinate the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of a portfolio of prospects with the active participation of CBE academic leadership.  The portfolio will be comprised of rated major gift prospects. Develop and implement strategic steps to build relationships that will result in gifts in support of the program.

Philanthropy and Major Gifts
Manage a large portfolio of rated campaign research leads with the potential of raising major gifts. Solicit and close major gifts at all levels.

Professionally and clearly articulate CBE and Departmental vision and funding priorities verbally and in writing to prospects and donors.

Work with the Assistant Dean to ensure strategic solicitations are made and to further develop fundraising opportunities in both annual and major gifts areas.

Collaborate closely with and staff department chairs/faculty and volunteer committees as determined by the Assistant Dean for Advancement.

In cooperation with other advancement staff, develop, lead and/or participate in activities to cultivate and steward prospective donors.

In consultation with the Assistant Dean for Advancement, establish personal goals, objectives and strategies, and develop an annual operating plan.

As it relates to the portfolio, work to track pledge schedules, endowment agreements, customize acknowledgement letters, etc.

As part of the University-wide advancement planning process, assist the Assistant Dean for Advancement in the annual establishment of goals, objectives and strategies for the CBEs advancement activities.  Regularly evaluate programs, assess progress toward goals, and report on results to the Assistant Dean.

Other Duties
Attend CBE meetings and University meetings as needed.

Participate in professional development opportunities to expand knowledge base for the position.

Represent the School at University, community and professional functions, as appropriate

Perform other related duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS
A bachelors degree and three years of progressively responsible experience in development/advancement, with experience cultivating and soliciting major gifts. Equivalent combination of comparable knowledge and skills may substitute for education and/or experience.

An exceptionally strong background in sales may substitute for prior development experience.

Demonstrated strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, web/social media management, database management, and graphic design (MS Office, MS Access, Dreamweaver, InDesign, etc.)

DESIRED
Knowledge of alumni relations/development/advancement principles.

Knowledge of UW Advancement policies and procedures, including use of the development database software ADVANCE. 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Ability to work evening and weekend hours, as necessary, on short or limited notice.

Must have regular and reliable transportation for local travel and willing to travel when necessary.

Frequent local travel expected.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
