The University of Washington Medical Center's Heart Institute has an outstanding opening for a full-time, day shift, ARRHYTHMIA TECHNICIAN/DEVICE CLINIC SPECIALIST. The person in this role will be part of the Heart Institute Device Clinic team which is a cross-functional team managing the implanted cardiac devices of 2500+ patients. This management includes remote monitoring and analysis of Pacemakers, ICDs and Implantable Loop Recorders from diverse manufacturers including Abbott (formerly St. Jude), Biotronic, Boston Scientific and Medtronic. Continuing training and education is provided to Device Clinic staff by both Providers and device manufacturers allowing the Device Clinic staff to remain on the cutting edge of the ever-developing implantable device industry. In addition the Device Clinic team performs post implantation device interrogation, manages the non-conditional MRI program, provides in-patient support and provides in-clinic implantable device interrogation and adjustments.

The Device Clinic Specialist is a highly skilled cardiac technician with expertise in the area of remote monitoring of patients with implantable cardiac devices including pacemakers, defibrillators and loop recorders. The Device Clinic Specialist reviews and analyses critical device data, accurately charts and reports device performance and facilitates the daily device clinic operations.

The Device Clinic Specialist possesses highly specialized knowledge of multi manufacturer implantable cardiac devices and their multifunctional abilities. They have the ability to analyze, maintain and integrate knowledge of cardiac pacing, defibrillation and electrophysiology principles to provide safe and effective patient care.

The Device Clinic Specialist exhibits an understanding of complex cardiac and medical conditions and is able to participate in the review of patients clinical health history and medications, which is essential for care planning and management.

The Device Clinic Specialist must possess excellent communication skills, and acts as a liaison between the electrophysiology providers and other clinical care team members, to assure seamless care delivery.

  • Performs clinical analysis of device data
  • Identifies and interprets arrhythmias
  • Checks device battery status, appropriate sensing, lead impedances and thresholds
  • Analyzes data, assesses for appropriate functionality and adjusts programming accordingly for both inpatient post-implant checks and outpatient clinic checks
  • Analysis of accurate device arrhythmia detection and assessment
  • Recognition of appropriate vs. inappropriate device therapies
  • Accurately charts and reports cardiac device performance
  • Reports critical device issues and makes recommendations for plan of care in collaboration with EP providers
  • Interprets event log books and makes recommendations based on data
  • Independently performs in-person ICD and pacemaker interrogation on Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Biotronik & Abbott programmers and interprets the data and relays information to the Device Clinic RNs and EP providers
  • Coordinates the care management of device patients with EP providers and the other relevant health care team members
  • Responsible for coordination and scheduling of all required follow-up appointments for patients with cardiac devices
  • Triages patient related telephone calls which can involve emergent situations
  • Provides patients and their caregivers with education / updates regarding their device monitoring
  • Adheres to billing guidelines and practices

    High school graduation or equivalent AND one year of experience as an ECG Technician I AND certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation AND certified by the National Alliance of Cardiovascular Technologists OR certified within one year from date of hire
