Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking an Archaeologist II for full-time employment in the Portland, OR office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

This role will provide field and lab support to cultural resource projects throughout the Pacific Northwest, as available. The Archaeologist will have knowledge of field excavation techniques, the ability to process recovered archaeological artifacts, and will be able to assist in the preparation of field and laboratory forms and technical reports. In the field, the Archaeologist will conduct excavation of shovel probes, test units, and features, as well as mapping and documentation.

The ability to lead small field crews of field technicians under the direction of the Field Director or Principal Investigator may be required. This position supports Phase I, II, and III field and lab studies.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct all aspects of archaeological field work, including survey, site recordation, site testing and evaluations, monitoring, and data recovery.

  • Assist with mapping responsibilities in the field, including collection of GPS data using Trimble units.

  • Conduct technical research and assist in preparing archaeological reports and/or site forms.

  • Analyze and document prehistoric and historic sites and artifacts.

  • Work independently under supervision of a Project Manager, Principal Investigator, or Field Director.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field;

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology; a graduate degree in Anthropology or a related field can substitute for 2 years of experience, or demonstrated equivalency of education and / or experience.

  • Must have completed an accredited archaeological field school;

  • Current valid drivers license and U.S. government issued identification required;

  • Field projects may be located anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, and travel will be required;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Archaeology/Anthropology or related field;

  • Relevant field experience, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring, in the Pacific Northwest;

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Global Positioning System (GPS), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop;

  • Works well in a team environment;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
