Agile Program Lead

The Agile Program Lead will be responsible for delivery and continuous improvement across multiple teams to enable high value business outcomes.

This role serves as a subject matter expert on scaling agile delivery, embraces servant leadership, understands the engineering practices and displays behaviors that demonstrate the key mindset shifts associated with being agile. This position will also directly manage a team of Scrum Masters. This position requires deep knowledge and experience with Agile and Lean, along with the ability to apply and adapt thinking and practices to various situations as a coach to Technology and Business teams.


  • Coach and mentor Technology and Business teams on their respective agile responsibilities as well as how to be effective in agile roles.

  • Coach a strategy for execution alignment across teams to produce and deliver the highest quality products, at a sustainable pace and with a consistent velocity.

  • Manage Scrum Masters providing hands-on coaching in all aspects of Scrum and/or Kanban (facilitating daily stand-up meetings, sprint planning, scrum of scrums, sprint demo and retrospective meetings, backlog refinement, daily routines, self-organization, collaboration, iterative development, managing flow, calculating velocity, limiting work in progress, etc).

  • Concentration on developing execution leaders, Scrum Masters and closely partnering with the Program Leadership Team - Product Management and Tech Director - as well as Product Owner(s), Tech Leads and key business stakeholders to guide the value stream.

  • Establish program level cadence and drive program level ceremonies (e.g. PI Planning, Scrum of Scrums, etc).

  • Represent the program in tower level ceremonies (such as an S3).

  • Work with other business and technology leaders to drive the definition and refinement of the business intent backlog and partner with Technology Leads to define and develop a comprehensive engineering excellence technology backlog.

  • Work with Product Leadership to craft a Roadmap of intent.

  • Interpret and draw meaningful insights and actions from standardized metrics at a program level.

  • Ensure cross-value stream coordination and collaboration.

  • Serve as an escalation for impediment removal for the Scrum Masters and teams.

  • Assess the maturity of the team and organization and coach the team around continuous improvement opportunities, at a pace that is sustainable and appropriate for the team, program and organization.

  • Review current agile processes, drive process improvements and challenge team to innovate.

  • Coach agile engineering best practices such as test-driven development (TDD), DevOps, continuous integration (CI) and test automation.

  • Facilitate discussion, use measures to drive decision making, and assist with conflict resolution.

  • Communicate program-level information transparently throughout the organization

  • Work well with other coaches and consultants.

  • Remain informed about industry trends and best practices concerning agile, agile engineering practices, and advances those best practices in the organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience leading product and application development.

  • At least 5 years of Agile experience.

  • At least 3 years of Scrum experience.

  • At least 2 years of people management experience.

  • At least 1 year of Agile coaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • 6+ years of experience with Agile engineering practices and techniques such as User Stories, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment, Automated Testing, Agile Games.

  • Masters Degree

  • 3+ years of experience with Agile framework support tools such as VersionOne, Rally, JIRA, Confluence, and TFS.

  • Scrum Alliance CSM or CSP certification or PMIs Agile Certified Professional (ACP)

  • Agile or Professional Coaching certification

  • PMP, Lean, Agile, or Six Sigma certification

  • SAFe certified or other scaled agile frameworks
