Job Description

Reporting to Finance Manager, Accounting Service Group


The accountant working within the team, Accounting Service Group, has a goal to ensure the accuracy, reliability and integrity of the accounting processes. Within this role is the responsibility to maintain internal controls and to ensure compliance with Nuvasive policies and procedures and applicable laws and regulations.


Essential Job Functions


Accounting, inventory and fixed asset management:

  • Prepare accounting records in accordance with local and US GAAP. Analyse and track any differences from US GAAP to local GAAP.
  • Perform monthly closing of accounting ledger within the overall corporate timelines.
  • Maintain controlled ERP environments; generate trial balance and financial statement data.
  • Record transactions within the Trading Company and Commercial entities with timeliness and accuracy. Coordinate activities to record journal entries within the overall team.
  • Maintenance of the fixed asset register, focused on the accounting for our capitalized surgical instruments managed within the country and loaned for surgical procedures. Recognition, calculation and booking of monthly depreciation and forecasting of depreciation expenses for the in country subsidiaries.
  • Reconciliation of inventory balances between the subsidiary ledger and general ledger. Ensure alignment between physical quantities and values to general ledger balances.
  • Maintenance of the local general ledger, including month-end inter-company balance reconciliation.
  • Assist with the maintenance of schedules and analysis supporting accounting areas that cover revenue recognition, fixed assets, inventory obsolescence, prepaid assets, accrued liabilities and lease accounting.
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly corporate reporting of financial results to Corporate HQ, including analytic commentary and analysis, in compliance with both local and US GAAP.
  • Assist with the compiling of local financial statements for subsidiary under Dutch GAAP and reported information for government reporting.
  • Supporting and coordinating with the VAT and CIT teams to enable them to submit appropriate and correct filings to local authorities.
  • Facilitate the requirements of internal and external (corporate and statutory) audits.
  • Support treasury and Hedging strategies for local currency and cash forecasting.
  • Expected to perform as a super user in ERP systems relative to financial modules
  • Communicate with business locally, finance teams in country and corporate team in the US regularly to ensure alignment on key issues.

Projects & Finance

  • Participate in a variety of projects, including integration activities, ERP implementations and enhancements, policies and procedures updates.
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting cycle as it relates to the Trading Company and Commercial business
  • Assist with inventory management and verification, including attendance at yearly stock counts.
Basic Qualifications
  • University degree in Accounting, Finance or Business
  • Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a similar job function
  • Advanced Excel and Proficient with other Microsoft Office Products.
  • Strong command of English language (verbal and written)
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and viewed as key asset within Accounting and Finance teams as well as with business partners in a matrix organization.
  • Experience in performing with cross-functional teams and projects to accomplish desired results
    Preferred Qualifications
      • Knowledge of spine market, medical device or orthopedics
      • SAP / SAP B-1 ERP experience 
      • Qualified Accountant RA, AA, CPA, ACCA, ACA (or local equivalent), former audit/accounting background 
      • Solid ERP experience
