Penn Medicine Center for Health Care Innovation is looking for a Senior Product Research and Development Engineer for medical device development. This role works closely with Penn faculty internationally recognized thought leaders, who have direct insights into critical unmet patient, clinician and system needs to accelerate the design, development, and commercialization of a portfolio of breakthrough devices.This individual will actively participate in the full breadth of the product development process (from need finding, concept generation, prototyping, vendor partnering, design transfer to manufacturing, and commercialization) for medical devices as part of a highly collaborative center. The individual will work in a highly visible and creative environment to partner with world leading clinical faculty at Penn Medicine to bring novel medical devices into existence. This position requires a high degree of resourcefulness to align stakeholders, manage competing priorities, effectively manage resources, and be self-directed.Responsibilities¢\tLead all aspects of product design and development¢\tWork collaboratively with a cross-functional project team through all phases of the product development process, (i.e., collecting and validating initial user needs, hypothesis testing, concept generation, verification and validation, transfer, commercialization)¢\tParticipate in concept brainstorms, building proof-of-concept prototypes, and hypothesis testing¢\tResponsible for mechanical design of early product concepts, detailed designs including 3D CAD and drawings¢\tWork directly with clinical faculty providing design guidance and expertise¢\tApply a diversified knowledge of engineering and business principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and makes decisions independently on problems and methods¢\tDemonstrate a full understanding in the application of design controls and development processes¢\tPrioritize tasks and manage a varied workload¢\tExhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and interface effectively with others across all levels of the organization, including executive leadership¢\tDevelop an expert knowledge of our technology portfolio and be able to creatively re-purpose them for medical applications¢\tCoordinate and hold accountable outside suppliers and consultants to ensure delivery on scope, materials, and services to meet scheduled lead times and budgets¢\tContribute to thought leadership, including presentations and publications for dissemination and recognition of our work ¢\tPerforms duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures¢\tOther duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Required Education/Skills\n•\tBachelor’s Degree in Engineering required \n•\t3+ years of experience in Medical Device New Product Development (not including co-op, internship and research)\n•\tExperience working within a regulated industry is required\n•\tDemonstrated success in coordinating the activities and deliverables of project teams\n•\tAbility to communicate technical information and ideas\n •\tMastery of theoretical, practical and experimental engineering techniques\n•\tAbility to use Microsoft Office tools\n•\tMust be able to articulate challenges and be proactive in thinking about new ways to do things and create enthusiasm for new initiatives\n•\tDemonstrated understanding of various types of manufacturing, mechanisms, materials, proper tolerancing, drafting standards, and GD&T is required\n•\tMust have creativity and divergent thinking to imagine non-obvious directions.\n•\tDemonstrated negotiation skills\n•\tA strong business sense, with the ability to formulate goals and implement and execute on strategies\n•\tDetail oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills\n•\tAppropriate energy, attitude, and aptitude to represent a high-performance service-oriented team\n•\tThe ability to look beyond conventional solutions and familiarity with technologies extending beyond traditional medical device products\n•\tKnowledge of computer aided design (CAD) software\n•\tThe ability to work within a cadaver lab and operating room setting\n•\t Baseline knowledge of reviewing and assessing patents and other forms of intellectual property is preferred
