A professional Sonographer who works closely with physicians, nurses and cardiologists to accurately diagnose medical disorders and perform high quality Cardiac Ultrasound studies, including Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE), Stress Echocardiograms (SE, DOB SE) with and without pharmacologic agents, assists physicians in Transesophageal Echocardiograms (TEE) utilizing current technologies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities¢\tPerform adult cardiac ultrasound exams (TTE, TEE, SE and DOB SE) following a set protocol according to guidelines and standards set by Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) and the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE).¢\tDemonstrates the correct use of the controls to enhance the image quality to optimize visualization of all structures.¢\tAccurately perform all necessary calculations needed for diagnosis of cardiovascular abnormalities, have a clear understanding of all disease states.¢\tUnderstands when to activate the CRITICAL FINDINGS protocol and follows through on the procedure.¢\tExplain the procedure to the patient in a clear and concise manner so that patient fully understands. Able to maintain a calm demeanor during all phases of exams.¢\tAble to assist the physician with software programs on the Ultrasound systems for trouble shooting or selecting images at the end of exams.¢\tDemonstrates the ability to access the CUPID Cardiology Report system. Enters all pertinent data and technologist interpretation filling in all required fields.¢\tDemonstrate the ability to access the electronic patient log (pre and post exam)-enter the appropriate information for the correct patient and type of exam. Enters all pertinent data.¢\tObserves and reports promptly to the Department Supervisor or Clinical Engineering Department unusual occurrences or malfunctions of equipment.¢\tProperly cleans the TEE probe following the procedure according to lab protocol.¢\tMaintains and cleans laboratory and ultrasound equipment on a daily basis or as needed. ¢\tMake sure adequate supplies are kept, by maintaining an ongoing inventory system.

Graduate of a cardiac ultrasound program with an associate degree in cardiovascular technology or, 3-years’ experience in the field required. Minimum of 1-year of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer preferred. \n\nSpecial Skills and Other Requirements\n•\tFamiliarity with computer system applications including Microsoft Office Excel and Word products. Ability to use hospital approved computer equipment. \n•\tGood communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm in a stressful situation.\n•\tExcellent skills in cardiac anatomy and physiology and thorough knowledge of Echocardiography procedures and equipment. \n•\tThe ability to prioritize patient flow for efficiency in productivity. \n\nLicensure/Certification \nRegistered sonographer through the Credentialing International (CCI) or American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) preferred, or registry eligible. If CCI or ARDMS registry eligible, registration must be obtained within one year of hire.\n\nBasic Life Support (BLS)\n\nWork Environment and Hazards\nNormal hospital conditions with possible risk or exposure to infectious, communicable diseases. Maneuvering of stretchers and wheelchairs with patients into proper positions for testing. Ergonomically correct in lab setting. Pushing and pulling of heavy ultrasound equipment to perform beside exams. Some travel to off site locations is possible. Normal office environment well lit setting, ergonomically correct.
