The Endoscopy Center is a diverse environment where patients are readied for an endoscopy procedure. The unit provides care for patients arriving from home or from an inpatient unit in all phases of care: preop, intraprocedure and postop. The unit works collaboratively with many disciplines including proceduralists and the anesthesiology team. The team works hand in hand to care for the patient undergoing an endoscopic procedure. The Endoscopy Procedure unit is fast paced and dynamic while meeting the needs of the perioperative patient preparing for a procedure. We are currently searching for OR Techs to join our team.Provide supportive nursing care to selected patients under direction and supervision of the professional nurse; facilitates patient care by meeting specific nursing care requirements and assists in performance of patient care measures; informs the registered nurse of any signs, symptoms of untoward responses. 1. Need for environmental safety, comfort. a. Identifies patient according to HUP Policy before carrying out functions. b. Carries out HUP fire and safety regulations. c. Promotes infection control: 1) Washes hands before and after patient contact. 2) Carries out isolation procedures according to Infection Control Manual. Deals with blood and body fluids according to the standard precautions policy. 3) Reports needle stick injuries to charge nurse. 4) Reports exposure to communicable diseases and infections. 2. Clinical Aseptic Technique a. Demonstrates principles of aseptic technique in clinical practice. b. Follows aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies. c. Sterilizes instruments and supplies in autoclaves as directed by Perioperative policies. d. Follows department policy on scrubbing, setup, gowning and gloving. e. Observes for contamination and/or breaks in aseptic technique. f. Drapes the patient with sterile materials in the manner directed by the surgeon or RN circulator. g. Demonstrates proper handling of implants and prosthesis. h. Follows proper procedure for handling contaminated instruments after procedure i.e. cleans case cart after removing instruments. i. Uses appropriate instrument tables for each case i.e. back and side tables. 3. Professionalism a. Aware of legal responsibilities regarding instrument, needles and sponge counts. b. Follows policy for case with incorrect counts, reports and documents discrepancies appropriately. c. Counts and signs items as dictated per OR count policies. d. Follows safe practice when drugs and solutions are placed on the sterile field. e. Labels all drugs and solutions properly. f. Assist in the proper labeling, handling of all surgical specimens. g. Utilizes policies and procedures as a resource h. Routinely attends in-service programs h. Follows Perioperative Call Policy 4. Collaboration a. Demonstrates the ability to facilitate each case progression in a timely manner. b. When prompted provides relief staff with accurate report c. Knows when to seek help 5. Technical Skills a. Modifies scrubbing procedures based on patients individual needs. b. Able to set up procedure in a timely manner. c. Responds to an emergency situation with the help of other team members. 6. Initiative a. Begins to make professional use of downtime b. Shows signs as team player. 7. Problem Solving a. Learns to identify and report defective instruments, supplies and equipment. b. Maintains a safe environment by learning and following safety rules. 8. Communications a. Learns active communication skills b. Respects patients rights to privacy, safety and dignity i.e. HIPPA. c. Learns professional attitudes and behaviors. 9. Teaching/Preceptorship a. Learns to share knowledge gained through participation in continuing education activities. 10. Values a. Respects patients rights to privacy, safety and dignity. b. Maintains patient confidentiality. 11. Leadership a. Learns teamwork by assisting other team members in such activities as room turnover. 12. Continuous Quality Improvement a. Learns concepts of continuous quality improvement.

Minimum Requirements:\n\nHigh School Graduate. Certification as Surgical Technologist or graduation from an approved practical nurse program or 5-7 years related medical or hospital based surgical experience in lieu of certification. Must be able to read, comprehend and write English. Possess three year of continuous recent surgical technologist experience. Should have no performance management issues within the last year. If the Surgical Technologist completes a nursing degree and obtains nursing licensure they may continue to practice within the scope of the Surgical Technologist job description until they are able to transition into a different position within or external to the organization.
