The Cytogenetics laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania is one of the oldest cytogenetics laboratories in the country and where the Philadelphia chromosome associated with CML was discovered. The laboratory continues to thrive, with both chromosome analysis and FISH studies performed with a volume of approximately 4,000 cases/year. We are looking for an individual with significant cytogenetics experience to join the laboratory to perform analysis and administrative activities (see below for details). The primary responsibilities are to accurately perform and analyze FISH (paraffin and fresh) and chromosome analysis and to manage the daily technical and administrative functions of the Cytogenetics Laboratory. The administrative activities will include, but are not limited to, compliance with institutional and laboratory policies and procedures, evaluate and recommend technical methods based on clinical and financial parameters, ensure that written and approved technical procedures and documentation are maintained for each determination performed, and manage personnel. This is a great opportunity for an individual who is organized and decisive, who is interested in enhancing cytogenetic processes and improvements, and has an interest in supervising cytogenetic personnel.Specific laboratory activities associated with this position:¢\tTechnical Service: Accurately perform all testing for which competency has been established, including FISH and chromosome analysis. Administrative activities associated with this position:¢\tLaboratory quality and improvement monitoring¢\tCompliance with CAP, CLIA and state regulatory agencies¢\tFiscal management ¢\tStaff development¢\tPerforms duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.¢\tOther duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.

Bachelor's Degree in Biological and/or related Sciences and 4+ years Clinical lab experience. Must meet requirements as a general supervisor under CLIA-88.
