**Job Description:**

For nearly 170 years, pioneering technologies and the business models developed from them have been the foundation of Siemens success. Our central research and development unit, Corporate Technology (CT) plays an important role in this. Together with our global network of experts, we are a strategic partner to Siemens operative units and provide important services along the entire value chain from research and development to production and quality assurance, as well as optimized business processes. Our support provided to the businesses in their research and development activities is ideally balanced with our own future-oriented research.

We at Corporate Technology are more than employees: We are actively helping to make peoples lives a little better every day. Would you like to be a part of that? Then join us. We offer you a high level of practical relevance as well as an opportunity to individually contribute your knowledge and your visions around the world. Whether youre helping to develop products for the operating units or working in interdisciplinary projects for the business areas: At Corporate Technology youll be working in the heart of Siemens technological research together with the best.

Corporate Technologys research group Architecture and Verification of Intelligent Systems is currently seeking a Visual Designer for our Princeton, NJ location.

Our objective is to create a delightful, emotionally engaging, innovative, easy to use and easy to learn user experience for industrial products. The user experience considers safety, effectiveness, efficiency, and the WOW factor. With your expertise, we are able to distinguish the user experience of Siemens products from competitor products.

In your role as a visual designer, your key contribution is the creation of design languages for the different industrial applications and products. This is a hands-on job. Our understanding is that a design language is an overarching scheme or style that guides the design of a product or product line. A design language typically introduces reusable design elements. Examples of such design elements are (but not limited to): iconography, typography, color schemes, spaces, texture, and dynamic effects / motion.

Your main target user group is engineers. Engineers very much appreciate well-crafted design languages; however they want to understand the rationale behind different design options, and how it benefits them. The ability to systematically explore design choices and rationale design decisions is critical for the success in the visual design role.

You will get to work with other members of our group to implement a mostly graphical user interface for industrial applications. Typical collaboration roles include an interaction designer, a front-end developer and subject matter experts. You will often experience the full user experience life cycle, from inception through design, implementation, launch and maintenance.

What are my responsibilities?

Create design languages (including iconography, typography, color schemes, spaces, texture, and dynamic effects / motion) which create a delightful, emotionally engaging, innovative user experience. This is a hands-on job!

Elicit and understand business needs (including Siemens branding guidelines) and user needs for the creation of design languages.

Develop and/or update style guides to guide development teams.

Work collaboratively with interaction designers, subject matter experts, and front-end developers to ensure a consistent, integrated brand perception and user experience.

Stay up-to-date with innovative visual design trends.

Support the acquisition of projects.

What skills are needed to qualify for this position?

BFA/BA/BS in Visual Design, Visual Communication, Graphical Design, or related field is required.

Experience with the creation of design languages, including icons, branding, and motion design for graphical user interfaces of software-based products.

Strong visual design portfolio for graphical user interfaces (e.g. mobile, web, and/or other GUI technologies), ideally for industrial applications.

Professional work experience as a visual designer in software-based applications.

Experience with cross-device design (e.g. mobile phone, tablet, desktop)

Experience with native mobile technologies (e.g. iOS, Android), HTML/CSS technologies and responsive design. Experience with design for Windows based UI technologies is a big plus.

Proficient skills in Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Dreamweaver), prototyping tools and other industry design tools.

Willingness to travel up to 20% of the year domestically and internationally.

Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English.

Excellent interpersonal skills and can-do attitude and the ability to work independently and prioritize work.

Ability to rationalize and explain design decisions.

Successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US Export Control Law. US Export Control laws and applicable regulations govern the distribution of strategically important technology, services and information to foreign nationals and foreign countries. Siemens may require candidates under consideration for employment opportunities to submit information regarding citizenship status to allow the organization to comply with specific US Export Control laws and regulations.
