Transportation Director

The City of Olympia’s Public Works Department seeks a Transportation Director to lead a staff of 30 employees and oversee the planning, engineering, operations and administration of the City’s transportation system. The Transportation Division has a $5.7 million annual operating budget and advances the principles of multi-modal transportation, asset management and continuous quality improvement.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business, Planning, Engineering, or other field closely related to transportation.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in the management of projects, programs and activities closely related to transportation; and at least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Solid operational and technical experience in the area of Transportation, including Engineering, Planning, and Maintenance.
  • Commitment to our Public Works values of Respect, Collaboration, Innovation and Excellence; and to fostering a trust-based work environment.
  • A thorough understanding of municipal budgeting, grant writing, and asset management; as well as the ability to manage effectively in a resource constrained environment.


Additional Salary Information: $101,021 - $122,819 Annual salary plus benefits
