**Job Description:**







**Position Overview:**







The System Engineer is responsible for assisting in design and systems integration of brake systems, truck systems, truck motor cable fatigue testing, and miscellaneous passenger coach and light rail vehicle interior equipment integration with systems and regulatory compliance of Siemens light-rail and heavy rail trains for North American customers. This role reports to our Mechanical Engineering Director and is located in Sacramento, CA. Successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced Systems Engineers.







**Responsibilities:**







+ Completes complex material and system specification, technical reports and technical proposals, and follow-up to ensure proper and effective implementation and integration.



+ Performs complex design, development, testing and modifications of solutions.



+ Performs explanations and clarifies information to enable proper interpretation and evaluation of complex specifications, performance characteristics or other technical data.



+ Performs internal and external communication of complex technical and commercial issues.



+ Prepares or approves drawings.



+ Completes recommendations for complex new designs, new processes, or design changes to meet requirements.



+ Performs full range of standard work for the professional field.



+ Refers complex, unusual problems to others.



+ Identifies and resolves more complex problems and applies problem solving skills in order to deal with most situations.







**Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:**







+ Required education: Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering required, advanced degree is preferred.



+ Required experience: 2 years of experience in rail vehicle systems engineering and/or design



+ Required travel: 5%



+ Other requirements:



+ Must be capable of understanding mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and pneumatic and hydraulic schematics. Understanding, creating, and providing feedback on cable and hose routing designs for vehicle design in order to ensure fatigue life is meeting expectations.



+ Must be capable of researching, understanding, and implementation of requirements related to passenger interior systems meeting FRA, and APTA requirements.







**Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience:**







+ Machine language programming for fatigue test application preferred.



+ Engineer-In-Training certificate preferred.
