We are seeking an experienced, high caliber Staff Test Controls Engineer  to support our hybrid and SMT manufacturing process.   This includes but not limited to, design and develop new software and hardware to test new products. Investigates and resolves production problems involving test equipment software and hardware. Apply engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems. Remain abreast of and consults on technical advancements. Identifies and routinely uses the most effective, cost efficient and best practices to execute processes; continually evaluates their effectiveness and appropriateness.

Responsible for the transfer of new medical product design to manufacturing in accordance with applicable US and International medical industry regulations and standards. Works with the design team during product development to specify production test methodologies and requirements. Works with the manufacturing team to develop required test equipment and validate the manufacturing process. Also responsible for product sustaining activities.

  • Develops hardware interfaces, including test points within design, and develops software to test design using Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) testers.  Assists others in the design and development of interface hardware, probes, fixtures and circuit boards to test silicon wafers and medical devices.
  • Maintains existing software. Installs changes as necessary to provide testing for updates to existing product designs. Updates all documentation to support changes.
  • Generates project plans and software and hardware documents relative to the resolution of problems and/or the implementation of new test software.
  • Identifies and resolves discrepancies between new design test requirements and test system capabilities using hardware or software designs.
  • Establishes and maintains Fault Isolation Guides
  • Lead review of electrical yields and define key failure modes requiring investigaions
  • Work with broader organization (Process engineering, Manufacturing, other Hybrid Sites, Hardware Development and ATE) to determine root cause and drive corrections.
  • Conduct product failure investigations
  • Lead Fault Isolation organization
  • Own NCMRs and CAPAs related to Test and Burn In processes and non-process related product issues
  • Local site owner for Manufacturing documentation related to Test, Burn-In and Fault Isolation.
  • Writes test plans and conducts design verification testing of hardware.
  • Coordinates transfer of device and test software into production and provides follow-up support to facilitate resolution of problems.
  • Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.  Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned.

    Your experience(s), education and knowledge will further expand Abbott’s marketplace success:

    • Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering or related engineering field. Minimum of three years of progressively more responsible work experience in electrical test or test equipment design/development, as well as experience in mixed signal automatic testing.
    • Basic familiarity with \"C\" programming or similar programming languages. Broad familiarity or experience with mixed signal (analog/digital) Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) systems; expertise in one or more relevant specialties.
    • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
    • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
    • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
    • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
      • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
      • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
      • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
