**Job Description:**

Siemens Healthineers is developing a major new platform and has established a start-up environment within Berkeley to contribute to this major initiative.

Siemens Healthineers are currently seeking a Physicist or Engineer to contribute to new platform development within their Molecular Diagnostics Business. Contributions are expected at the individual level. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment. Capable of integrating requirements from the various stakeholders and have ability to balance the needs of cost, quality and time-to-market.


- physicist, bioengineer or engineer

- experience with colloidal systems and transport and control of mixed phases. Ideal candidate has experience in magnetic particle transport through various fluids - deep understanding of surface tension , and chemistries that affect transport.

- Should have experience with transport through filters and transport of submerged particles or beads through fluids.

- Mixed physics simulation and experimental experience and capabilities sought .

- Masters Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics or related field with 3+ years experience;

- PhD in above fields with 0-2 years experience.

- Experience with modeling paramagnetic beads in solutions , deep understanding of magnetism, paramagnetism,

- Analysis of filtration systems applied to purification and isolation of nucleic acids

- Experience with surface coatings and chemistries that affect hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties of materials and solids, fluid and colloidal transport.

- Experience with nucleation events within fluids and from free surfaces is desirable

- Experience with purification and transport of colloids and nucleic acids and extraction of nucleic acids from complex crude biological sample backgrounds.

- Experience with DEP, and ultrasonic field simulation desirable.

- Familiarity with Fluorescence and/or Luminescence based optical detection systems is a strong plus.

- Proficiency in analytical software, and computational multiphysics e.g. Matlab, Comsol C++, Python.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Self-driven and creative team player, with strong startup mentality. Must have strong problem solving skills and be willing to learn on the job.

**Additional Skills Sought** .

The engineer /scientist will support the development of detailed requirements, engineering specifications, verification and validation , and supporting regulatory submissions of these devices.

Participate in FMEA, worst case analysis and verification/validation of product/design

Ability to understand scientific and systems-level engineering questions and propose and deliver solutions.


Ability to work independently and in project teams.

Excellent communication skills
