The Staff Accountant is a strong team player who is passionate about UWATXs business, accounting, and planning processes being aligned with our core values and strategic goals. You will be responsible for helping ensure that the financial operations of United Way for Greater Austin are conducted in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner. You will perform practices and procedures required to maintain general ledgers and prepare full accrual monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP, Federal, State and City rules, regulations and ordinances. You will develop and review complex financial and account reporting requirements. You will research and analyze technical transactions to resolve questions and validate data; assure fiscal accountability and fund integrity for transactions and supporting documentation. As the Staff Accountant, you will assist in creation and maintenance of internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard the assets of United Way for Greater Austin.

What you will bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited university or college required.

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.

  • 2 - 3 years of professional experience in accounting required.   

  • 4 - 5 years of professional experience in accounting preferred. 

  • Experience with non-profit accounting preferred. 

  • Strong analytical skills. strategic thinker, creative and innovative problem-solver.  

  • Superior customer service and organizational skills. 

  • Excellent oral/written communication skills.

  • Excellent electronic spreadsheet and word processing skills in a Windows/Microsoft environment.

  • Must be able to accomplish accurate, detailed tasks in short time frames with minimal supervision.

  • An ability to work and meet deadlines in a cross-functional, fast-paced work environment.

  • Valid drivers license, proof of insurance, and access to reliable transportation.
