This Senior Scientist will

report to the Head of R&D and Technology for the Siemens Healthcare

Laboratory in Berkeley, CA. The successful candidate will be responsible for

development of new assays to be utilized in research, clinical trials, and as

laboratory developed tests. Ability to work in multi-disciplinary project

teams, effective coordination between R&D sites, and clear communications

with external collaboration partners are all essential skills for this

position.

laboratory science, molecular virology and precision medicine.







SHL R&D provides our

pharmaceutical industry partners and molecular services customers with

expertise in development of new and unique diagnostic tests that enable

physicians to treat patients more effectively.







**Responsibilities**







The

Senior Scientist will be responsible for design and implementation of prototype

assays, leading optimization and performance verification studies, documentation

and communication of results, and coordination of test method transfer to

clinical operations







Additional

responsibilities include training and oversight of junior scientists,

troubleshooting of technical issues, and ensuring compliance with applicable

quality and regulatory requirements







**RequiredKnowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience**







B.S.

degree in a relevant scientific field is required. 5+ years of experience is

expected. An advanced degree may be substituted for a portion of required

working experience in the IVD or clinical laboratory industry







Extensive

handson experience in design and prototyping of molecular tests and

immunoassays; excellent communications and technical writing skills; and

ability to work in a team environment are required







**PreferredKnowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience**







Relevant

technical expertise includes nucleic acid extraction from blood cells,

plasma/serum, and FFPE tissue; insitu and invitro analysis of DNA, RNA and

proteins; and singlecell analytical techniques or targeted enrichment

strategies for subsequent analysis by genomic or proteomic platforms







Valuable

skills include design and optimization of hybrid-capture methods; DNA

sequencing data analysis and applications programming; data quality assessment and

error correction; and mutation analysis in heterogeneous samples such as tumors

or viral quasi-species







Working

knowledge of clinical laboratory testing is an advantage







Training

and certification in histology or molecular pathology is a plus







Additional

knowledge of oncology, virology, immunology, cardiovascular disease, neurology,

or other medical fields of application for molecular diagnostics is preferred.
