Primary Job Function:

Incumbent serves as main divisional point of contact for Global Service:  Management of the planning, material control, TSB parts availability and distribution and instrument distribution, shipment and locations. Sets strategic direction for the materials organization in forecasting, planning, and production of goods and services for service commercial operations worldwide. Leads key Service supply chain strategic and tactical initiatives. The organization achieves this through balancing numerous conflicts and constantly changing elements, e.g. customer demand, inventory management, asset distribution capabilities, changing business needs and strategies, regulatory requirements, technology changes and manufacturing capabilities.

Incumbent to ensure undertaken activities are focused towards economic profitability improvement; raising customer loyalty; lower service support costs; employee engagement and delivering value based pricing.

Core Job Responsibilities:

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

Responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the quality system, including quality policy, planning the organizational structure to support the quality system, and management review of the quality system to determine its effectiveness.

Manages the development of asset distribution plans to support end customer sales, Area commercial operations demand, and finished goods.

Manages Spare parts and asset inventory levels and safety stocks in support of end customer sales at the desired service levels, while maintaining the lowest inventory investment possible.

Resolves product delivery conflicts with supply chain and prioritizes distribution schedules.

Sets strategic and tactical direction for the materials organization to support business plans.

Develops strategic improvement initiatives to meet long-range goals; assure implementation of these initiatives.

Manages all aspects of Service material control supporting Commercial Areas, to include the material flow, replenishment levels and Affiliate/manufacturing inventory spare/asset levels.


It is expected that this individual will work with division management from; Commercial area; Affiliates; Manufacturing Operations; Product Development; Finance; IT; Commercial Operations; and QA/RA to ensure that inventory initiatives result in direct and auditable business improvements.


This position significantly impacts the Division’s ability to meet product quality; cost improvement; service; and sales goals; as well as service initiatives, which have a significant impact on customer satisfaction and the development of emerging markets. Decisions made by this position directly affect profitability.

Consolidates, reviews, and approves information required for plans and updates; presents to senior management.

Ensures schedule commitments and financial goals are met.

Manages resources, provides direction Service Area Management.

Translates inputs from technical meetings and Marketing into impact on short term and long term raw material procurement strategies.

Coordinate plans with R&D/Mfg/Marketing to ensure adequate inventory levels are reached prior to TSB deployments.

Serves as liaison with the commercial organization to assure customer expectations are met and relationships are maintained.

Communicates with senior Abbott management and suppliers or executive management.

Represents Abbott with external agencies.

Provides leadership and direction to Materials Management and other WW organizations to support multiple project teams.

Develops and tracks goals and objectives to assure annual improvements in operational performance, product quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Establishes effective measurement systems for performance to assure meeting of quality, customer and cost expectations.

Authority to Act:

This position has total accountability for managing and integrating strategies; processes; and resources in support of Global Asset Management; and Global Service Support. This position is guided by broad objectives and subject to review only on a periodic basis by site and division management to assure consistency with division/corporate direction.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's degree or 5 years equivalent work experience.

Minimum Experience/ Training Required:

Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics. Technical

10-15 years related experience in medical device operations, service, and quality
