This job is focused on converting our clinical outcomes requirements and commercial objectives into customer education. The two therapy areas, movement disorders and chronic pain management, both have a profound impact on patients and caregivers lives. As a result, the right candidate has an opportunity to leverage our market leadership position into educational program design, content development, key opinion leader interaction, and educational event execution. In this role, you'll join a committed team driven to advance the widespread adoption and appropriate use of the full Abbott portfolio with a focus on implantable device therapies.

The Education Specialist position requires process-oriented candidate (to properly manage compliance requirements inherent in healthcare) but balanced by a strong ability to be resourceful and creative, exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as possess the ambition to advance their career to a leadership position as we expand the team to support our explosive revenue growth.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develops relationships with Key Opinion Leaders who will serve as advisors to curriculum development, content development and faculty/instructors for professional education.
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of relevant speakers.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams from Education, Product Marketing and Sales management to provide educational opportunities for physicians, fellows and advance practice providers
  • Provides programs engineered for fellows and aimed at advancing understanding and adoption of Abbott technologies.
  • Identifies program ‘champions’ within the sales organization to implement initiatives and liaise with program directors and fellows.
  • Also participates and develops presentations for conventions, forums, and meetings for the purpose of promoting product awareness.
  • Establishes and manages vendor relationships that offer products and services of value to professional education initiatives.
  • Maintains the necessary communication skills and methods that provides for the exchange of strategic opportunity and program information.
  • Incorporates occupational and career development issues of greatest importance to fellows into Abbott initiatives.
  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of Company products, therapies, educational market and business objectives in order to develop and implement continuing education programs.
  • Complies with geographically-relevant regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. 
  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Monitors competitive activities.


    • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant area
    • 3-5 years training experience in medical devices
    • Previous product training/ teaching experience
    • Previous experience in applying fundamental concepts and practices to conduct needs assessment and design professional education programs. 
    • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
    • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
    • Adept at being able to focus and prioritize to meet deadlines.
    • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, attention to detail and high standards of excellence.
    • Ability to travel approximately 35-50%. May include some international travel.
    • Can be required to work weekends during the academic year

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • An advanced credential, such as an MBA in a relevant discipline/concentration, a plus. 
      • Professional training/education certification or designation, a plus.
      • Multilingual a plus
