**Position Overview:**

The Software Engineer I aims at increasing competitiveness of Siemens products by creating sustainable systems and software systems. The Software Engineer I is responsible for the design, implementation, quality assurance, test, maintenance and evolution of the software designed, even in the face of challenging, changing and evolving business cases, requirements, realization technologies and other forces (e.g., strategic changes approaching the project). The Software Engineer I designs and implements the requirements for a given project. The Software Engineer I ensures that the design satisfies all requirements, allocates the various requirements to specific subsystem/components.

**This Role will include the following responsibilities:**

+ Performs Software reviews and assessments

+ Is responsible for the non-functional aspects of the product, ensuring it meets all required -ilities

+ Supports standard design, maintenance, enhancement, testing implementation, and support of software.

+ Provides support with the development of software test requirements for standard modules under development, may execute standard test specifications.

+ Advises in providing estimates for standard modules under development, and may estimate own work.

+ Provides support in reviewing standard customers' standards specification and other documentation to determine software engineering requirements.

+ Independently performs basic tasks and functions for professional field of work.

+ Seeks advice and guidance on non-routine or problem areas from others.

+ Identifies problems as they occur and takes appropriate steps to solve them in situations where the problem is not difficult or complex.

+ Demonstrates a basic knowledge of professional principles and skills.

+ Effectively uses fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization.

+ Contacts are primarily with immediate manager and others in the group. **Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience**

+ Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Computer Science.

+ Qualified applicants will typically have up to 2 years of successful experience in a directly related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above. **Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience**

+ BS in Electrical or Software Engineering preferred

+ Advanced Degree preferred, Masters, PhD, or MBA. Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience.

+ Proven capability to perform SW development and the use of development tools sets

+ Experienced with C/C++/ Java and various operating systems

+ Technical knowledge signaling, operations concepts in rail industry, rail products

+ Strong analytical skills

+ Experience with Embedded Control Systems design & development

+ Experience with Safety critical/Vital systems

+ Quality assurance, testing, test automation, verification, validation

+ Requirements engineering

+ System/ Software architecture

+ Standards, process and methods for safety critical hardware
