The Research in Digitalization and Automation (RDA) department, as part of Siemens Corporate Technology (CT), is at the heart of Siemens R&D. We are currently seeking a Software Architect Big Data for our Princeton, NJ location.







Complex software-intensive systems are at the core of Siemenss business. Siemens trains, power plants, factory automation, building automation, power grid control, medical devices, and others depend on the correct operation of software. Therefore, sustainable software architectures are essential for the success of our businesses. The software architects in our team help Siemens business units world-wide to improve their software architectures, making our products even more reliable, performant, scalable and maintainable. We also help business units translate new business ideas into software solutions and successful products. Our research results influence Siemens products and are reflected in patents and publications in journals and conferences. The Software Architect Big Data will help Siemens development teams leverage big data technologies to develop new products or enhance existing products.







**What are my responsibilities?**







Provide technical leadership in the area of big data software architecture to the team, collaborators and customers.



Participate in the definition of the research strategy for big data software architecture and perform research, development and consulting projects collaborating with colleagues, customers and universities.



Supervise the work of graduate student interns.



Design and implement customized solutions for Siemens business units.



Define, articulate, document and apply architectural principles and patterns.



Acquire and lead projects and travel to meet with collaborators and Siemens-internal customers.







**What skills are needed to qualify for this position?**







Master in Computer Science or equivalent is required. PhD is preferred.



Minimum of three years of experience in software engineering is required.



Minimum one year experience with big data technologies, such as Hadoop and Spark.



Minimum two years experience with SQL and NoSQL databases and data warehouses, such as Cassandra, MongoDB, Greenplum, Redshift, DynamoDB, Postgres, MySQL.



Ability to write clean and efficient code in Java, Scala, and Python.



Experience in software architecture methods and tools.



Ability to work on a problem from the analysis phase to the implementation of a practical solution.



Experience with Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure or other public cloud is highly desired but not required.



Publication record in high profile peer-reviewed journals and conferences is highly desired but not required.



Willingness to travel 20% (domestic/international)



Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English are required.



Strong collaboration skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
