Abbott is seeking a passionate, experienced strategic medical device marketer to join our Heart Failure team.    Heart Failure is a condition that affects 5 million people in the United States alone, and Abbott’s coordinated effort to bring new medical device solutions to this population will revolutionize how this debilitating condition is treated in the US and around the world.

This senior opportunity is with our Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) business.  The restoration of blood flow to patients whose heart is no longer able to provide adequate cardiac output is the first goal of  MCS therapy. The HeartMate family of chronic Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) are returning patients home to live their lives and improve quality of life and functional status, while also preventing costly hospitalizations that represent a significant drain on healthcare systems around the world.

This position is responsible for:

  • Daily management responsibility for chronic MCS product line(s) which consist of active implantable devices, surgical accessories, patient worn peripherals, power systems, and monitoring platforms.
  • The person in this position will be regarded as a deep subject matter expert related to assigned product(s)/product lines and therapies with broad knowledge of related fields.
  • Leading early phase product planning activities including business justification
  • Providing guidance and support on related product development activities (defining requirements).
  • Executing and managing implementation of commercial strategies and development
  • Serving as a key contributor of the overall commercialization effort for Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) portfolio of products.
  • Execution of product commercialization plans
  • Collaboration with Americas and/or ID sales/marketing teams.
  • Market development activities

    Job Duties:

    • Daily responsibility of managing HeartMate product line(s) including field and customer support, forecasting, and life cycle management.
    • Develops strategic roadmap and business cases to support new product and service offerings.
    • Partners with marketing colleagues to shape customer requirements for related products
    • Collaborates with marketing colleagues on integrated marketing business plan deliverables for assigned programs.
    • Develops analysis around the competitive environment and clearly defines product positioning, key issues, strategies, and target audiences for assigned product(s)/product lines.
    • Builds strong relationships with leading KOL’s around the world
    • Presents product and marketing plans to internal management.
    • Develops product marketing bulletins on new and current products. Provides communication to sales team on market released products.
    • Serves as leader of physician product planning advisory board for assigned product(s)/product lines.
    • Builds strong relationships with regional marketing teams to ensure successful launch of new products.
    • Works with marketing communications to support development of launch materials, product literature, and any other collateral material required to support sales and key marketing messages.
    • Conducts product overviews for physician and sales reps.
    • Works with market research to collect all limited market release survey data and shares results regularly with management.
    • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.

      Qualifications:

      • 4 year college degree; MBA preferred
      • Minimum of 4 years of medical device industry Marketing experience (post MBA) or 8 years of relevant professional medical device  Experience working with complex product portfolios in the medical device industry.
      • Experience with strategic product planning and commercial execution.
      • Developed leadership skills/experience, including the ability to map task inter dependencies, prioritize such tasks, and develop, monitor and live within budgets as well as the demonstrated ability to forecast major milestones.
      • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
      • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
      • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
      • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
      • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.
      • Ability to travel approximately 30%, including internationally.
