The Senior Actuarial Consultant position is critical in order to support the enterprise strategy. This position will primarily support the National Accounts Market, particularly some of our larger clients. The responsibility will include analysis and pricing support for the insurance products we offer to our client, and the ability to adjust for the particular needs of those clients. The incumbent will work closely with Underwriting, Sales, Product, Operations Claims and Valuation areas.







**Key Responsibilities:**







+ Participates in the rate-making, reserving, and risk evaluation functions.



+ Counsels management and advises on underwriting functions that require actuarial or mathematical techniques to determine appropriate courses of action.



+ Determines rates of mortality, sickness, retirement, etc. based on analysis of statistical data.



+ Provides data reporting, analysis, trending, and recommendations to business management and ensures data integrity, format, collection and presentation.



+ Determines validity of data and provides supporting explanations of conclusions reached.



+ Uses data to project future short- and long-term scenarios and anticipated results.







**Functional Responsibilities**







+ Prepares, performs, and analyzes actuarial research and audits.



+ Manages and conducts research projects and communicates findings to others under minimal supervision.



+ Provides higher-level administrative/technical support to actuarial staff by preparing and analyzing statistical reports of data.



+ Develops, extends, and maintains reserve programs and procedures.



+ Calculates reserves.







+ Provides complex data analysis and trending and provides observations and recommendations for review by management.



+ Develops and implements reporting deliverables and timeline for each assigned case. Runs complex ad hoc reports on schedule and provides data analysis prior to delivery to business management.



+ Researches requests and downloads data in order to prepare exhibits, summaries, presentations, and/or reports for use by business management.



+ Manipulates data using spreadsheet or database applications taking into account technical knowledge of operations, reporting formats, and objectives of data analysis. Investigates and corrects discrepancies.



+ Supervisor Responsibilities: None. May provide guidance to other actuarial staff.







**Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:**







Required:







+ Bachelors Degree in applied mathematics, actuarial sciences, or a related field.



+ 5+ years of insurance industry experience with comprehensive business knowledge.



+ Working knowledge of underwriting and accounting concepts.



+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.



+ Excellent communications skills; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.







Preferred:







+ Actuarial exams is highly preferred (Pre-ASA, ASA or near FSA).



+ Experience with programming languages such as Excel and Access.



+ Experience in group life, dental, disability.



+ Underwriting experience is a plus.



+ Ability to build and maintain relationships.



+ Detailed oriented.



+ Organizational skills.
