Scrum Master - DataOps

Abbott has an immediate need for a Scrum Master to join their team in Chicago Illinois working with the Big Data and Advanced Analytics DataOps team in Commercial, Digital and Innovation (CDI) group of Business Technology Service (BTS).

  • Agile Knowledge – Deep understanding and experience with multiple agile methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban, Lean Startup, eXtreme Programming, SAFe, LeSS, etc. – Experience with all listed is NOT required
  • Communication – Ability to communicate well with teams and stakeholders
  • Servant Leadership – Ability to garner respect from product team(s) and willingness to get hands dirty to get the job done
  • Facilitation – Ability to lead Scrum ceremonies and demonstrate value add principles to the team and other parts of the organization
  • Assertion – Ability to ensure agile concepts and principles are adhered to, must be able to be a voice of reason and authority, and make the tough calls
  • Situational Awareness – Be adapt at noticing the differences and team issues as they arise, and when necessary elevate them to supporting managers
  • Continual Improvement – Believe and practice continuous improvement by learning new tools and techniques to manage yourself and the team(s)
  • Conflict Resolution – Ability to facilitate tough discussions, and facilitate alternatives, or different approaches
  • Transparent– Provide accurate visibility to the senior leaders about development progress and build trust

    Core Job Responsibilities

    • Work directly with product owners, developers, product architects and leads (such as engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, etc.) to organize a product backlog, develop user stories and manage the scrum team.
    • Guide the team and larger organization on how to use Scrum and other Agile practices and to delight customers
    • Organize and facilitate the daily scrum, sprint reviews, retrospectives, sprint and release planning as needed by the scrum team(s)
    • Assess the Scrum maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable
    • Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged
    • Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
    • Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
    • Support the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog and working with the team(s)
    • Collaborate with other Scrum Masters and Agile Coaches across the organization and actively participate in an Agile Coaching Team and/or “Community of Practice\"
    • Part of the centralized team responsible for building and managing advanced analytics products/ solutions in Abbott

      Education/ Experience

      • Expertise in DataOps, Information Management and Analytics [big data and advanced analytics]
      • 7+ years of project management experience in data warehouse, analytics or business intelligence development in a complex, multi-platform distributed environment.
      • At least 3 years’ experience as a Scrum Master
      • CSM, PSM, or CSP certification required
      • Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, engineering, or equivalent relevant experience/ Master’s Degree preferred
      • Strongly Preferred Skills
        • Knowledge of: Platform Development, Data Analytics, “Internet of Things”, User Centered Design Thinking, Cloud Computing, DevOps
        • Development Technologies like Scala, Spark, Redshift, AWS Elastic Search, Hadoop
        • Past exposure to Healthcare, Medical Devices, Pharma or Nutrition domains is a strong plus
        • Prior experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial startup environment is a strong plus
