**Position Overview:**

The Principal Software Engineer aims at increasing competitiveness of Siemens products by creating sustainable systems and software architectures. The Principal Software Engineer leads, guides, coaches and motivates the team to enable, support and enforce an appropriate implementation, quality assurance, test, maintenance and evolution of the software architectures designed, even in the face of challenging, changing and evolving business cases, requirements, realization technologies and other forces (e.g., strategic changes approaching the project). The Principal Software Engineer manages and governs the design and implementation of the stakeholders requirements for a given project. The Principal Software Engineer ensures that the design satisfies all stakeholder requirements, allocates the various requirements to specific subsystem/components, ensures compliance with high-level decisions and monitors implementation to reduce architectural drift. The Principal Software Engineer must have an overall understanding of the business and ensure that decisions made with regards to the architecture of a product align with the overall business goals.

**This Role will include the following responsibilities:**

+ Provides technical leadership to the team, collaborators and customers with respect to state-of-the-art software and system architecture methods, tools and trends.

+ Performs architecture reviews and assessments

+ Ensures the implemented product adheres to the aforementioned architecture and decisions made around the architecture

+ Is responsible for the non-functional aspects of the product, ensuring it meets all required -ilities

+ Must take part in the Change Control Board to ensure all factors are included when making decisions about the architecture

+ Must have knowledge of each phase of the lifecycle and should be able to successfully lead and coach team members during each phase

+ Leads the most complex design, maintenance, enhancement, testing, implementation, and support of software.

+ Leads and designs the development of software test requirements for the most complex modules under development, executes most complex test specifications.

+ Leads and designs estimates for the most complex modules under development, and estimates own work.

+ Leads reviews of the most complex customers' standards specification and other documentation to determine software engineering requirements.

+ Designs presentations of the most complex technical findings and developments.

+ Leads the software quality process through the execution of the most complex module, subsystem and system test procedures.

+ Independently performs leading-edge areas of work for the professional field.

+ Preempts potential problems and provides effective solutions in reaction to application of concepts, techniques, knowledge, or processes.

+ Displays original thinking in applying principles, theories, and concepts on a wide range of problems.

+ Successfully serves as point of authority and/or source of technical/scientific knowledge for software engineering.

+ Acts as advisor to top management and business partners on advanced technical matters.

+ Represents the company as the primary external contact.

+ Develops team members through mentoring and coaching in complex subjects.. **Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience**

+ Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Computer Science.

+ Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of organization's business practices and issues faced and contributes to problem resolution of those issues.

+ Demonstrates and applies advanced knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures for area managed and basic knowledge of other areas in the company and how they interact.

+ Qualified applicants will have 12+ years of successful experience in a directly related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above.

+ Proven capability to improve SW development/ to support the setup of new development teams **Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience**

+ BS in Electrical or Software Engineering preferred

+ Advanced Degree preferred, Masters, PhD, or MBA. Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience.

+ Proven capability to mentor SW development and the use of development tools sets

+ Very experienced with C/C++/ Java and various operating systems

+ Technical knowledge signaling, operations concepts in rail industry, rail products

+ Strong analytical skills

+ Experience with Embedded Control Systems design & development

+ Experience with Safety critical/Vital systems

+ Quality assurance, testing, test automation, verification, validation

+ Requirements engineering

+ System/ Software architecture

+ Standards, process and methods for safety critical hardware
