Product Engineering Supervisor

SUMMARY

Under guidance of a Product Engineering Manager, oversee product development activities for new and existing products including: product design and project leadership, resource planning, and establishment of staff goals and objectives.  Achieve and exceed quality, timing, and cost targets established by company leadership.  Mentor and develop the engineering staff to excel in their roles.  Deliver a world-class customer experience.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be assigned.



  • Supervise a staff of engineering professionals engaged in new product development and sustaining engineering processes.  Including but not limited to:  Requirements documentation, specification writing, planning, engineering design and analysis, CAD modeling, optimization modeling, drafting, supplier collaboration, BOM structuring, design review, prototype builds, validation testing, design release, and manufacturing launch support.

  • Collaborates in the product planning process and works with cross functional teams to execute product plans to expected business results.

  • Demonstrates both technical and business acumen while delivering to customer requirements and the companys quality, timing, and cost expectations.

  • Supports or leads cross functional business process improvement efforts to increase speed of execution, increase output, improve output quality, or reduce cost.  Effectively uses business metrics in combination with personal communication to lead.

  • Excellent ability to organize and prioritize efforts of others and themselves to get things done and consistently honor their commitments.

  • Assists the Product Engineering Manager in developing plans to improve our product and business processes.  Helps identifies the need for department initiatives and supports the development of project budgets and plans to justify, approve, and execute those projects.

  • Represents the company and themselves every day in a positive and results driven manner in all business situations.



EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE



  • Bachelors degree in an Engineering discipline required.

  • A Professional Engineers (P.E.)  license is desirable. 

  • A masters degree in Business or Engineering Management is also desirable.

  • Eight years related experience and /or training required.

  • Two years of prior management or supervisory experience required.

  • Experience working within an APQP or phase/gate new product development processes required.

  • Experience with CAD, FEA or CFD, electrical schematic or P&ID creation are also required.

  • Knowledge of the design and operation of valves, controls, water heaters, thermodynamics, and heat transfer is highly desirable.

  • Program Management Certificate or background preferred.



AN IDEAL CANDIDATE WOULD HAVE THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Knowledge of plumbing or fluid system modeling and design.

  • Experience with specifying or designing electrical power and/or control systems for consumer, commercial, or industrial products.

  • Experience with the design of residential, commercial, or industrial water heaters or electrical heating devices which comply with UL 499.

  • Experience with design of valves and/or temperature control devices to which can be certified to ASSE 1016, 1017, 1069, 1071.
