We are looking to offer a career opportunity to a high caliber procurement leader for our $2Bn+ franchise to manage a global spend of over $350MM. 

The role will involve leading a global team across multiple sites to manage the purchasing of materials efficiently from suppliers in order to maintain sufficient material and inventory position for the manufacture of Cardiovascular medical devices. 

Responsibilities include driving people leadership and development, improving financials of the business, managing purchasing policies and procedures, implementing metrics, negotiating with suppliers, optimizing raw material inventory investment, material requirements planning, and supplier development.

This employee will be in a role that makes a difference individually and as a team to help Abbott succeed. This is a high visibility role with regular touchpoints with Executive leadership. Impact this role will have on Abbott:

  • Procurement Excellence across the board. Driving strategic behavior vs Tactical current state.
  • Manage the procurement department including all personnel planning and performance management and the departmental operating budget.  This includes training and development of the Purchasing staff.
  • Establish procedures and manage the processing of change orders and appropriate communications with vendors regarding material and quantity requirement revisions, rate adjustments, and incorrect materials.
  • Manage the entire purchasing record keeping process including PO generation and verification of invoices against PO’s.  Establish procedures for and manage the return of damaged goods, replacement items, or credit arrangements.  Arranges for vendor corrective action and works with supplier to improve quality.
  • Identify and approve suppliers and establish purchasing protocol and procedures to ensure purchases meet quality and design specifications and are cost competitive. Work with the QA department to establish supplier audit procedures and track their performance.
  • Establish procedures and manage the processing of change orders and appropriate communications with suppliers regarding material and quantity requirement revisions, rate adjustments, and incorrect materials.
  • Plan and schedule deliveries to optimize inventories in support of production schedules, work with suppliers to maintain supplies to minimize shortages of supplies
  • Work with the Engineering department to establish new material design specifications and select appropriate suppliers.
  • Support all Divisional initiatives as identified by divisional management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements

    Experience(s), education and knowledge:

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • 7+ years in procurement function for a manufacturing company. Medical device industry experience a plus.
    • 3+ years’ experience in managing procurement department professional staff.
