L\-3 Unmanned Systems is a rapidly growing division specializing in the innovative design, test, and manufacture of unmanned aerial vehicles \(UAV\)\. Our staff has led or supported the development and deployment of multiple advanced technology systems for a variety of key government customers\. We are currently recruiting a **Principal** **Electrical Engineer\.**

The ideal applicant for this position will have a minimum of ten years of experience working on team design projects in a senior technical role, and a strong passion for engineering\. This position requires a strong knowledge of the electrical design process, and the ability to effectively communicate engineering concepts, costs, and risks to program managers and other members of the management staff\. The applicant must be comfortable performing electrical simulation tasks, and able to oversee these tasks when performed by others\. The applicant must be highly knowledgeable of the technical aspects of electrical engineering and design processes in order to build trust with the management team when acting as a program lead engineer or cost account manager\.

Experience in various aspects of product development, electrical simulation, troubleshooting/diagnostics, and prototyping will help the applicant fit in with the fast\-paced development cycle within our division\.


+ Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university

+ 10 years of experience performing electrical system\-level and board\-level design

+ Experience acting in functional lead or program lead engineer roles

+ Experience with Earned Value \(EV\) Management techniques, preferably in a Cost Account Manager role

+ Proficiency in computer\-based electrical design and analysis tools, preferably using Mentor Graphics products\. Consideration will be given to applicants with experience utilizing other equivalent software products\. Strong design skills are a requirement for this position\.

+ Proficiency with circuit card and wiring harness fabrication techniques\. The ability to assemble and modify assemblies is required\. Experience with hybrid/flex circuit card designs is strongly desired\.

+ Electrical system diagnostic skills, including the ability to operate diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc\.

+ A working knowledge of RF communication techniques and devices is strongly desired

+ Experience with environmental qualification testing is strongly desired

+ Excellent written and verbal presentation skills to facilitate communications with team members, customers, and senior leadership

+ Demonstrate excellent organizational, decision\-making and problem solving skills

+ US citizenship and active Secret clearance are required\.

+ Possession of a current Top Secret clearance is highly desirable\.Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SSBI is mandatory\.


+ Act as functional or program lead engineer

+ Act as cost account manager for electronic/electro\-mechanical products and projects

+ Provide labor estimates for engineering proposals

+ Participate in defining and deriving product requirements

+ Design electrical systems, including circuit cards and wiring harnesses, to meet product requirements, which often include compliance with standards such as MIL\-STD\-810 and DO\-160

+ Leverage early prototyping and testing of design concepts to identify issues prior to entering production

+ Create electrical schematics, preferably using Mentor Graphics DX Designer software tools

+ Perform circuit card design, including layout and routing, preferably using Mentor Graphics PADS software

+ Perform electrical simulation using SPICE or equivalent software methods

+ Perform printed circuit board analysis using Mentor Graphics Hyperlynx, ANSYS, or equivalent software

+ Interface with other engineering groups, particularly Mechanical and Software Engineering, during product design process
