Payroll Accountant/Analyst

Position Summary:

This position maintains payroll-related accounts and is responsible for the reconciliation and accuracy of one or more accounts within a complex accounting system. This position processes payroll, maintains all personnel files and payroll records, and administers employee benefit programs and related expenses including health, life, disability insurance expenses and retirement programs. This position maintains employee records for vacations, holidays, and other paid time off benefits. This position may perform periodic internal audits of various payroll areas and prepare materials for external auditors. This position collaborates with Finance and Human Resources to provide HRIS data analysis information.

Essential duties and responsibilities

  • Process payroll using an automated payroll processing system that is integrated with an HRIS system. Reconcile and maintain all personnel records and files in accordance with statutory requirements and ideastream recordkeeping policies.

  • Reconcile payroll related accounts with the general ledger system, and employee benefit deductions with plan providers programs.

  • Communicate directly with federal, state and local tax agencies as needed and resolve employee issues regarding time-sheet preparation.

  • Prepare payroll analysis and HRIS reports using database management tools as requested.

  • Administer the health and welfare plans for employee enrollments and terminations; and, working directly with insurance, COBRA and retirement plan providers, resolve employee concerns.

  • Administer all aspects of workers compensation and unemployment programs.

  • Ensures accurate recordkeeping and timely reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements for labor, healthcare and retirement reporting specifically IRS, DOL, ACA and 403(b) administration.

  • Prepare all employee benefit invoices for payment processing including reviews for accuracy and proper account coding.

  • Assist with recruitment, hiring and open enrollment for benefits.

  • Assist with general accounting responsibilities as requested.



Broad knowledge of payroll and benefit functions. Experience with Paycor, other payroll systems and Microsoft Dynamics GP software preferred.

Basic understanding of human resource functions such as employment regulations, training, compensation and administrative procedures.

Knowledge of primary labor regulations such as Fair Labor Standards Act, COBRA, EEO, PPACA and related compliance matters.

High-level knowledge of in Microsoft Office software including word processing, Excel including database analysis tools such as vlookup and pivot tables and import skills.

Demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Customer service skills.


Moderate accounting experience.

Experience in a payroll accounting role, strongly preferred.

Experience using an HRIS system for managing data and preparing analysis reports.


Bachelors degree in Business, majoring in Accounting or equivalent experience required.

Essential Physical Demands and Working Environment:

Ability to see, communicate, hear and utilize electronic communication devices.

Office environment, sitting most of the day. Little to no travel. Able to work under pressure of immovable deadlines
