**Position Overview:**

is developing a major new platform and has established a start-up environment

within Berkeley to contribute to this major initiative.







Siemens Healthineers are currently

seeking an Optical Engineer to contribute to new platform development within

their Molecular Diagnostics Business. Contributions are expected at the

individual level. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment. Capable of

integrating requirements from the various stakeholders and have demonstrated

judgment to balance the needs of cost, quality and time-to-market.







**Skills/Requirements:**







- Masters Degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical

Engineering, Physics or related field with 2+ years experience; PhD in above

fields with 0-2 years experience.







- Hands-on lab experience, building and aligning optical

fixtures and measurement setups. Experience with basic machining tools a plus.







- Experience working with optical illumination, detection and

imaging systems, involving most of the following components: LEDs, lasers,

lenses, filters, photodetectors, cameras (CCD, CMOS). Previous experience

interacting with vendors a plus.







- Familiarity with Fluorescence and/or Luminescence based

optical detection systems is a strong plus.







- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute test procedures

for characterization of optical systems and components; A good understanding of

statistics as applied to measurement processes is a must.







- Proficiency in analytical software, e.g. Matlab, C++,

Python.







- Optical design software experience a plus, e.g. Zemax, Code

V.







- Good understanding of basic Optics theory. Circuit design

knowledge a plus.







- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.







- Self-driven and creative team player, with strong startup

mentality. Must have strong problem solving skills and be willing to learn on

the job.

The engineer

will support the development of detailed requirements, engineering

specifications, verification and validation , and supporting regulatory

submissions of these devices.







Participate in FMEA, worst case analysis and

verification/validation of product/design







Transfer of designed products to manufacturing

and support any post-launch and service

issues. This incudes design and

delivery of manufacturing test fixtures

and calibration systems.







Ability to understand scientific and

systems-level engineering questions and propose and deliver solutions.

Ability to work independently and in

project teams.







Excellent communication skills

(written and spoken or most importantly, through demonstration of beautiful

designs
