**Role Value Proposition**

The Leader Derivatives Risk Management is responsible for setting BHFs standards (including guidelines and limits) and continually monitoring activities related to BHFs over $125 billion derivatives exposure to ensure that both regulatory and internal guidelines and limits are adhered to at all times.

This position will report directly to the Head of Market Risk Management. The role is designed to partner with the 1st and 3rd Line of Defense organizations Treasury/ALM, Investments, and Internal Audit. The role will liaise with other senior leaders responsible for the functional operations of the Company including the CFO, Treasurer, COO, Head of Technology and others. The incumbent will support and collaborate with peers in the Risk organization and will support the development of risk analytics and reporting.

The primary objective of the function is to ensure effective management of market risks with a focus on all risks associated with derivatives. The incumbent will maintain the Risk view of market risks and assessment of those risks while working in a team environment with those business leaders and their organizations which have 1st line responsibility for managing those risks.

The incumbent will need sufficient experience, stature, and credibility in the organization to ensure ongoing effective governance.

**Key Responsibilities:**

+ Provide daily risk oversight for BHFs $125 billion derivatives book comprising interest rate and total return swaps, interest rate caps, interest rate options, credit default swaps, equity index options and future, equity variance and total return swaps, among other instruments

+ Set internal derivative guidelines and limits for BHF in aggregate and by Legal entity

+ Thoroughly understand procedures, guidelines and limits incorporated in the Derivatives Use Plan (DUP) for each Legal Entity

+ Establish procedures for monitoring compliance with limits or guidelines and define the process for resolving violations. Approve certain violations

+ Monitor counterparty exposures on a real-time basis and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal limits

+ Work with the Chief Hedging Officer and the Head of Market Risk to devise derivative overlay strategies

+ Oversee calculation and reporting of legal hedge effectiveness

+ Take a leadership role in the management of market risk for BHF

+ Prepare and potentially deliver quarterly reports to Legal Entity Boards related to derivatives

+ Prepare reports for the Chief Risk Officer to regularly inform the BHF Board

+ Set a team climate that aligns to the Brighthouse culture

+ Communicate vision and strategy to the staff and across the organization

+ Effectively communicate and accurately represent the market risk profile with all stakeholders, including regulators and rating agencies

**Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills** **:**

+ 10+ years of experience in risk management, evaluation of key market risks, and reporting of the overall risk profile and risk issues

+ Demonstrated ability to design and manage implementation of sustainable and repeatable processes (manual or IT supported); lead development of BHF derivatives IT capabilities

+ Demonstrated technical knowledge and experience in working with a range of complex derivatives

+ Ability to challenge individual trades as necessary and describe complex trades to senior management

+ Sound understanding of regulatory requirements for derivatives applicable to life insurance companies

+ Demonstrated ability to make decisions

+ Strong interpersonal and people/project management skills

+ A team player who has the collaborative skills to work within or manage project teams

+ Prior experience in working with Aladdin, Murex and Calypso a plus

+ Bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting a must, CFA preferred

+ Communicates and accurately represents the risk profile of the business or strategies to business and function leaders

+ In-depth knowledge of financial services operations

+ Proven track record as a subject matter expert, adept at leveraging skills to address business issues and fulfill financial objectives.

Travel will be limited as Charlotte, NC is the corporate headquarters with infrequent travel between operations in Convent Station, NJ and Tampa, FL.
