_Gearbox Assembly Technician_

**Position Overview**

Gearbox Assembly Technicians are responsible for operating production equipment and assembling components according to drawings and guidelines to ensure product specifications and quality standards are met. Gearbox assembly technicians may need to work directly with supervisor or engineers to resolve any production issues.


1. Attach gearbox housing to build stand.

2. Install gears.

3. Install bearings.

4. Measure for proper clearances using calibrated instrument (depth gauge, caliper, micrometer, etc).

5. Install spacers and covers.

6. Install housings.

7. Attach coupling.

8. Install various fasteners, plugs, and hardware.

9. Demount gearbox from build stand.

10. Inspect, test (if applicable), and adjust completed units to ensure that units meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.

11. Assemble parts or units, and position, align, and fasten units to assemblies, subassemblies, or frames, using hand tools and power tools.

12. Position, align, and adjust parts for proper fit and assembly.

13. Attach name plates and mark identifying information on parts.

14. Disassemble units to replace parts or to crate them for shipping.

15. Measure parts to determine tolerances, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and verniers.

16. Align, fit, or assemble component parts, using hand or power tools, fixtures, templates, or microscopes.

17. Inspect parts for surface defects.

18. Verify part dimensions or clearances to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.

19. Read and interpret schematic drawings, diagrams, blueprints, specifications, work orders, bills of materials, or reports to determine materials requirements or assembly instructions.

20. Explain assembly procedures or techniques to other workers.

21. Clean parts, using cleaning solutions, air hoses, and cloths.

22. Drill or tap holes in specified equipment locations.

23. Confer with supervisors or engineers to plan or review work activities or to resolve production problems.

24. Clean up working areas and inventory tools.

25. Conduct 6S audits and safety walks.

26. Participate in work groups / projects in order to inform oneself and to provide information to the others and to optimize processes and workflows.

1. Mathematics Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.

2. English Language Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar.

3. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Knowledge of environmental health and safety regulations and procedures.

4. Product- Knowledge of product, workmanship standards, and assembly procedures.

5. Computers Basic knowledge of computer software applications.

6. Production and Processing Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

7. Machines and Tools Knowledge of machines, power tools, and hand tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and operator level maintenance.

8. Lean Manufacturing Knowledge of basic lean principles and techniques for optimizing processes and eliminating waste.

11. Mechanical Assembly Assembling mechanical connections and components as per drawings, instructions, and procedures.

2. Cranes & Hoist - Use of all relevant lifting devices, fixtures, press heads, slings, etc.

3. Oven and Induction Heater

4. Freezer

5. Build Stand

6. Hand tools and Power Tools

7. Pallet trucks (if applicable)- Pallet jacks; Pallet transport trucks

**Education and Experience**

HS diploma or equivalent required.

Must be able to pass a basic skills test.
