**Job Description:**







Position Overview:



Electronics Layout Designer/Drafter for the Rail Automation R&D team in the domain of embedded systems for signaling. The role of the Electronics Layout Designer/Drafter will include responsibilities for the design and layout of electronics circuit cards as well as design of semi-complex mechanical products. The Electronics Layout Designer/Drafter will include responsibilities for new and existing products. The Electronics Layout Designer/Drafters tasks will include the development of products for safety critical systems, communication systems and user interfaces. Daily activities are supporting the creation of complex layouts and detailed drawings of complex products.







This Role will include the following responsibilities:







Completes complex drawings to suit engineering changes and initiates engineering changes.







Completes the creation of complex design layouts and detail drawings of complex products.







Performs compilation of materials and specification sheets.







Performs dimensions/specification determination necessary on complex drawings for effective manufacturing.







Performs the designs of cost-effective complex products with adherence to applicable industry and customer standards/specifications.







Completes complex investigations related to product design and maintenance.







Performs review of complex engineering drawings and supporting documents for adherence to drafting standards.







Completes planning test programs.







Selects material based on application; may coordinate procurement.







Performs complex and technically demanding work within technical or paraprofessional area.







Effectively identifies problems as they occur and takes appropriate steps to solve them in situations where the problem is more difficult and complex.















Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience







Associates degree or 1-2 years of vocational technical training.







Demonstrates thorough/advanced knowledge of designer/drafting methods, processes and tools.







Demonstrates thorough/advanced knowledge of PCB Layout tools, including Mentor Graphics PADS







Experience using AutoCAD







Qualified applicants will typically have 8+ years of successful experience in a directly related field and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above.







Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience







BS/BA in technical field preferred







Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience.







Experience using Solidworks







Technical knowledge signaling, operations concepts in rail industry, rail products







Strong analytical skills







Experience with Embedded Control Systems design & development







Experience with Safety critical/Vital systems







Quality assurance, testing, test automation, verification, validation







Standards, process and methods for safety critical hardware
