Job Title:Electrical Engineering Trainee

Description:

Healthcare Optics Research Laboratory is a division of Canon U.S.A., Inc. The research laboratory is located in Cambridge, MA and will be the home of skilled employees dedicated to developing biomedical optical imaging and medical robotics technologies with the ultimate goal of bringing to market medical devices for a variety of applications. The areas the technology will address include detection of cardiovascular disease, brain-functional imaging, robotics-assisted surgery and miniature endoscopy. Canon U.S.A. is working in conjunction with its parent company, Canon Inc., on this endeavor.

Canon Healthcare Optics Research Laboratory is currently seeking an Electrical Engineering Technician (Co-Op) to assist in mechanical testing of the key components and materials for medical optical imaging systems.

- Perform electrical and optical testing of prototype optical components and assemblies.

- Build prototype Interferometers using various fiber optic techniques such as splicing and connectorization.

- Perform root cause analysis and recommend possible design changes based on testing results.

- Coordinate with outside suppliers in the fabrication, assembly and testing of fiber optical components.

- Perform basic programming using Matlab and LabVIEW or other similar languages.

- Work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists to coordinate daily activities and goals.

- Build and improve custom test equipment and fixtures.

- Present test results in team meetings using PowerPoint or other presentation software.

- Education: BS in Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent

- Experience Required: Good understanding of electrical and optical concepts, design, and testing of optical and fiber optical components and devices.

- Knowledge on raw materials, machining processes, and quality control.

- Required skills in basic programming languages like Matlab and LabVIEW.

- Skills in design, drafting and analysis using SolidWorks and Zemax are nice to have.

- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly to others in different functions, at various levels.
