**Job Description:**

**Material Handling Opportunity Snapshot**

Drive a key growth initiative that will make a significant impact on the bottom line in this high visibility role. In this diverse Business Development role you will work with end users, OEMs, distributors, and system integrators, focusing on account retention and expansion as well as on new business development for material handling and logistics companies as part of our Digital Factory/ Factory Automation division. We are facing a significant opportunity in the supply chain space, with an increasing demand for automation and control products for conveyor control, AS/RS and other material handling operations and youll be an important resource, completely dedicated to this market.

You will bring your experience in engineering, motion control, drives and automation, plus experience in material handling and logistics to our customers as a trusted consultant. There will be many opportunities to expand your skills on the sales side by managing a large market across multiple channels. This role will provide you with a good deal of autonomy and you also will enjoy strong support from internal and external partners. While this position can offer challenges and rewards for years, your success in this role could set you up to pursue multiple career paths in our organization.


The basic qualification for this role is legal authorization to work permanently in the U.S. for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:

A bachelors degree in engineering, ideally Mechanical or Electrical; experience in lieu of a degree will be considered for the right candidate

8+ years of experience in an applications engineering or business development role using motion control, drives and automation products

Multiple years of experience in material handling, logistics or system integration; specifically, business development and/or sales experience with a manufacturer or distributor of automation products within the material handling or logistics space with strong industry knowledge in relation to the automation of conveyor, logistics, sortation and/or storage systems would be an ideal fit.

A detailed understanding of the automation and controls organization and their processes

Experience working with customers on quotes, proposals and solutions development

Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative team environment

A familiarity with technological trends, market requirements, customer requirements and customer needs in the NAFTA and global markets, and the ability to recognize and anticipate market and segment trends

The ability to work across functions to drive cooperation and integration with automation and motion controls product groups to ensure product roadmaps are aligned with overall market needs and future growth opportunities

An entrepreneurial spirit to drive innovation and market differentiation utilizing existing pieces of the Digital Factory portfolio of products and solutions

Preferred but not required:

Existing relationships with sales and plant management in one or more material handling or conveyor manufacturers is a plus

An existing network with major customers and demonstrated success with business development, particularly an understanding of end user distribution and supply chain areas as well as key players in the conveyor system manufacturing community

You will work primarily out of your home office preferably close to a major airport. You may travel from 30 to 75% of the time, depending on where you live. Travel will be primarily in the U.S., but there may be occasional international trips, such as to visit our offices in Germany.

**Role Overview**

Reporting to the Manager of the Business Development Team, who is headquartered in Atlanta, you will work out of your home office, traveling across the U.S. to build relationships with material handling, logistics and conveyor manufacturers and the companies that build logistics systems and equipment for manufacturing plants, distribution centers and other facilities. How much and how far you travel will depend on where you live, but our preference is close to a major airport.

Your key goals will be to engage the conveyor machinery manufacturers to gain even wider acceptance of the Siemens brand in the US Market, and to provide engineering consultation as the industry and machinery expert for this segment. Much of your time will be spent building relationships with key OEMs and machine builders, getting to know the engineering staff and building a strong network of contacts throughout the segment.

Some of your specific tasks will be to:

Plan, develop and implement coordinated market strategies in alignment with the long range business plans for Digital Factory/ Factory Automation in the United States.

Develop and implement marketing strategies and programs focused upon select application spaces such as the conveying, automatic storage & retrieval sortation, singulation, and induction in order to achieve sales, profit and market share goals.

Drive demand creation along assigned vertical segment(s) by being the business and technical expert in respective markets.

Monitor and report on competitors marketing, sales stimulation, and innovations for vertical segment.

Develop strategic business plans to support market share objectives and develop advanced and leading-edge programs for assigned vertical segment(s).

Ensure overall market effectiveness by influencing the portfolio, product placement and position in the market.

Interface with headquarters to provide complete solutions to the markets including alignment of global products/ solutions.

Apply and leverage global strategies to penetrate new sub-segments in focused vertical markets.

Drive the interaction from the Digital Factory/ Factory Automation business unit to the End User selling organizations to assure synchronized selling activities at the End User community to assist in demand creation from the OEM community.

Though well provide training on the company and our products, we need someone who is ready to come in and hit the ground running to develop this vertical. Though this is similar to a sales role, youll need a strong basis in engineering, including an understanding of the machinery and the engineering processes, so that you can build credibility and create solutions that will work for the end users.

This is not a quick sale environment. Youll spend a good deal of time building relationships before gaining any contracts, which requires patience and great skill in networking. We also face strong competition, so youll need to spend the time to get to know what were up against and what makes us a better choice.
