**Role Value Proposition** :

The Marketing departments goal is to transform MetLife into a beloved brand, on a global and world class scale; one that is bought rather than sold. To do this effectively, a philosophy and practice of customer-first in everything the company does must be at center of the companys thinking. To that end, the highly strategic US AVP, Marketing Science leadership role has been created to help deepen the companys customer relationships and impact the companys business strategy, with customer-led product and solutions, distribution, marketing execution and investment priorities as to how to best leverage the brand.

The AVP, Marketing Science- US Direct-To-Consumer, Data Science, Business/Comp Intel & Voice-of-Customer is responsible for developing and delivering analytic capabilities to measure and drive business growth including campaign enrollment, marketing metrics, and marketing ROI measurement activities for the US Line of Businesses and US Global Brand Marketing group. The AVP, will lead the Marketing Science US Direct-To-Consumer, US Data Science, US Business/Competitive Intelligence and US VoC teams, and work closely with the VP US Marketing Science to further develop Marketing Science capability and skillset across the broader US Marketing Science team and US MetLife.

**Key Responsibilities:**

+ Build strong Marketing Science capability and skillset across the US Marketing Science team as defined by:1. Market Research: Deep & Broad Expertise in Research Methods & Analytic Tools & their business application2. Marketing Excellence: Ability to develop strategies, marketing plans & touch points that drive long-term growth.3. Strong Business Acumen Ability to develop & support potential business implications Assist VP US Marketing Science in defining, shaping and implementing the strategic role of research, insights & analytics across US business lines, channels, and customers. Lead and develop the Marketing Science US DTC & Data Science, Business/Comp Intel & VoC team, increasing strategic thinking, ability to influence business action, collaboration, & teaming,

+ Develop a proactive and strategic engagement approach within the Marketing Science US team (i.e. staying involved throughout development, activation and optimizing for greatest business impact. Share knowledge through collaboration, partnering, and cascading best practices across the organization). Design and commission key US research and insight studies across the value chain.

+ Define, shape and implement the strategic role of modeling, research and insights across US business lines, channels, and customers.

+ Establish a best-in-class approach & train US Marketing Org on developing cultural/trend insights that drive business impact.

+ Develop superior customer, marketplace & business insights to drive stronger value props, messaging, & improved execution across all touch points and New Product Development.

+ Build internal capabilities to better serve LOB (Line of Business) and GBM - building, extracting and codifying analytics best practices & partnership.

+ Identify Best-in-Class research standards & develop innovative methods to extract actionable insights to further nurture MetLifes iconic brand.

Identify and determine the most qualified research suppliers. Develop strategic partnerships to extract more value for MetLife.

Participate in selected key strategic & global projects in coordination with Global Marketing Science to deploy US area of expertise or lead/ pilot experience across geographies.

+ Build internal capabilities to better serve LOB (Line of Business) and GBM - building, extracting and codifying analytics best practices & partnership

+ Work with cross-functional partners on their business hypotheses and to help scope data science work appropriately to drive their objectives

+ Recommend, design and execute projects that deliver both tactical and strategic marketing insights across the value chain.

+ Identify and determine the most qualified research suppliers. Develop strategic partnerships to extract more value for MetLife.

+ Excel in a consultative and partnership approach/practice to build and manage cross-functional relationships with IT, Finance, Operations and P&L owners in order to ingest, enrich and analyze information.

+ Participate in selected key strategic & global projects in coordination with Global Marketing Science to deploy US area of expertise or lead/ pilot experience across geographies.

**Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills**

+ Minimum of 12-15 years of marketing research and analytics experience, including direct to consumer experience.

+ BS in Mathematics, Economics or Science, MS a plus.

+ Proven leader with a strong record of success and increasing responsibility.

+ Develop process and approaches to improve the effectiveness and visibility of data science.

+ Ability to influence key senior stakeholders and demonstrated ability in forming trusted advisor relationships with internal partners or clients, especially in a matrixed organization.

+ People management experience, including hiring and building teams.

+ Proven track record growing talent - coaching team members in capability expansion.

+ Team player with experience interacting with different functional areas and personality styles

+ Proven track record of triangulating disparate data & turning them into business recommendations & actions.

+ Demonstrated ability in understanding business issues/models & translating them into metrics & analysis plans.

+ Ability to communicate complex information in a way that is easily understood

+ Ability to assess and understand all key structured and unstructured data sources

+ Build complex data sets from multiple data sources

+ Build/Code/Analyze Appropriate Data in order to drive to actionable and clear business recommendations

+ Leverage data science tools/techniques to analyze large data sets & develop custom models/algorithms to uncover trends, patterns & insights in the data

+ Drive integration of data with traditional insights, to develop more holistic and complete recommendations

+ Leverage data visualization tools & techniques to deliver insights that drive business recommendations, innovative business solutions and enable real-time marketing and optimization

**Business Skills:**

+ Skilled at producing actionable and compelling recommendations by interpreting, exploring, finding and communicating insights discovered within complex data in a way that is easily understood

+ Strong leadership and communication skills

+ Strong interpersonal & relationship building skills

+ Strong Business Acumen, CPG experience preferred

+ Excellent time and project management skills with the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines

+ Comfortable in a dynamic environment. Able to identify needs, develop a plan of action and implement.

+ Comfortable with ambiguity

+ Self-starter who can think creatively and look for/develop elegant & viable solves for real world problems

**Data Analytics Skills**

+ Conceptual modeling: able to share and articulate modeling.

+ Statistical analysis: understand and work around possible limitations in models.

+ Predictive modeling: most of the big data problems are towards being able to predict future outcomes; Hypothesis testing: being able to develop hypothesis and test them with careful experiments a plus.

+ Data Visualization: creative in displaying information visually and making the patterns they find clear and compelling to business partners a plus.

+ Natural Language Processing: the interactions between computers and humans a plus.

+ Machine learning: using computers to improve as well as develop algorithms a plus.
